Eldar Revenant,Vampire Hunter, Scorpion Type II: scratchbuilt

This past weekend I painted another model: I don\'t consider it a test model, anymore, since I have focused the design, but I like the fact that I am trying something totally new for me, like freehands, and I like to test with new techniques and learn each time a bit more.

I also refined the previous model.

The new one is more subtle, methinks, with more brownish colors and less bright and yellow than the previous (which is much better).
Needless to say, I still need to paint the rest of the bike and the pilot, and, please, don\'t mind the un-smooth hihglights on the hull of the bike, which will have to be retouched.

but, less talk and more pics:

I opted for the color pallette of the second skull: I want to keep the army on a black-brown scheme, and the first one ended up being too yellow.

This weekend I worked on other bike hulls, and here is the result:

And here is a progression (from left to right), from the first bike I did to the last one:

Am I talking to myself, here? :bouncy:

Anyhow, we all know that our hobby costs quite a lot, and since the last thing I want to do is to spend 60-70 euro for a single model, I decided to self sculpt a ForgeWorld Eldar Avatar, proven the GW model is awfully painful, and the FW one is way too expensive.

So, as I have scratchbuilt half of my Eldar army (Revenant, Scoprion and Vampire Hunter), I might as well follow the flow, and selfsculpt the Avatar.

This is the first time I ever try sculpting not only this big (the model will be around 12cm in height - now it stands about 10cm to the shoulders) but something with human features.

But, enough talking.

This was the model last night:

and this is this morning:
eldar029.jpg

eldar030.jpg

The calfs are unpurposly done a bit bigger than the rest, since these won\'t be covered in molten iron, like the rest of the model; the breast muscles are still non existant, and I will add details in the following days, along with the details.

I am slowly building up the muscles, and the hardest thing to do are the cracks: if you look closely, I have used three methods in making cracks, over the arm, over the butt, over the left thigh.

As usual, C&C are welcome.

Cheers

I did some more work on the \"little\" dude: I did the left arm; the chest; part of the rib cage and the abdominal muscles.

here are the new pics (with a centimeter for scale):

Firstly your avatar is off to a great start specially for a first humanoid sculpt. I like the last jetbike you did the most focusing on just having the face of the skull fade out instead of defining the whole shape looks killer.

Hooey! Don\'t log on for a couple days and look at all the updates I miss.

Just letting you know you aren\'t talking to yourself, even if I can\'t really give any useful c&c.

Been following this thread almost religiously, hey! look over there! now, look at this swinging/dangling watch.

Postthehead, you want to post the head, postthehead postthehead postthehead, you will post the head, postthehead postthehead postthehead.

:evil:lol:twisted::drunk:

Here I am again.
I did the head (this is my third try, but, finally, I nailed it). I also did the Tony Manero collar; the chest symbol; the cloth with flames, and the \"horns\".

Here are the pics.

Comments: and just my two coppers at that. I\'m no expert, so please take them with a grain of salt.

Back of the head needs to be bulked out, more human cranial room. Like the face, but the teeth should be a little more pronounced. IE sharpened, dagger like.
The ribcage, should be lower on the torso. On the human body there is a \"space\" under the Petorial, above the sterumium (sorry spelling is my thing today).
From the pictures the calves look to short. maybe move the kneecaps up a bit?
The gems look nice but, the ring holders? should be inset from the jewel and not level. Maybe a press mold off a existing model? As a plus, you\'ll get consistency of size and shape.
The rune on the front is looking good, just needs to be shaped a little straighter, but I\'m liking it.

Please, like I have said before, please don\'t take anything that I say as a knock on your work, as you have tried and accomplished things that I would have the balls to, and I\'m liking what I have seen so far. Keep it up!

Hey man, this is coming along quite well. One thing though, have you logged the hours you have into this. Speak as someone who actually owns this ForgeWorld model, I couldn\'t be more pleased. I am curious how you ar egoing to do the \"wings\" and head. Also, cockpit??? This is a pretty neat project, but I must admit, seeing how you are going about it, while creative, it almost seems like stealing. That being said, I commened your effort, I just don\'t have time to attack something in this manner. Well done, maybe it will lead you to ForgeWOrld for a job, I see their webpage says they are hiring!

Stealing??? ??? ??? what are you talking about ??? If I sculpt someone eleses\' design it is not stealing; if I sold it, I would break copyright laws (and it still wouldn\'t be stealing), but, picking up a design isn\'t against the law and, not even wrong.

what do you mean by \"logging the hours\"?

which wings? which head? which cockpit? the revenant and the vampire hunter are finished; the scorpion has no wings nor head; the Avatar has no wings, nor cockpit... can you be more specific?

anyhow, thanx for the compliments.

looks very nice, think you have done a very good sculpting-job. As said above you have to bulk out the back of his head, take a look at an eldar or their helmets for the right shape.

(by logging hours, I think he means; have you kept track of how much time you have spend making him)

Thanx. I re did the head, though I left is unpurposly \"flat\" to make room for the \"wig\" I am going to put on him... anyhow, next week I\'ll show new pics.

Oh, thanx. In total, I\'d say about 20 hours, and 5 euros worth of putty.

Here I am again, after the Easter Holydays, that I spent in bed, ill and with temperture.

Anyhow, I re-did the head (the one before looked too big and \"strange\"); then I did the shoulde pads, and the details on the calves, the arms, on the shoulderpads and on the horns, and, finally, I did the hand.

here are the pics:

Just had a off thought, Wouldn\'t a wig, loin cloth, and cloth on the Avatar burst into flame?

The pictures are making the fingers look a little stumpy. A bit thick maybe? The rework is looking good, especially with the shoulder pads. The calves are still looking to short. But over all this is looking good. Have you decided on what the \"Wailing Doom\" is going to be? I vote a large flamey mace  but thats just me.

I totally agree with the cloth catching fire; that is why, along with the FW Avy with sword,I sculpted flames on the cloth.
I have also added the wig on the Avy, and will post pics asaitk (which means: as soon as I take them lol ).

Though, I have finally managed to upload pics (I had some issues with photobucket) of the finished jetbikes.
You\'ll notice I exchanged the normal convernted riders with converted guardians I got from ebay for 7 euros.
Here are the 3 squadrons of jetbikes:

eldar002-2.jpg

eldar004-2.jpg

eldar005.jpg

and the whole set of jetbikes together:
eldar008-2.jpg

I really like how the gems came out. I wanted to keep the bikes and the riders fairly dark (with a black-brown main color scheme) but with \"flashes\" of lighter colors (the white helmets and the blue gems.

Next up will be the wraithlords, with intensive OLS.

Stay tuned for pics of the Avy with the wig on (I know I should pick on a god, but those hairs look too much like a wig!).

cheers

thanx Queen for the words of appreciacion.

here are some pics of the Avy wearing the wig.
The lance is not of my liking, so, it will be redone this weekend.

Liking the wig. Looks to be the right size, as apossed to the GW \'mane of death\'.

Now I\'m not to such on the posing of the hands. With the left hand in the \"Hamlet\" pose I wonder if it wouldn\'t look more natural with the spear tip rotated say roughly 60- 75 degrees to the shoudler line. I guess I see what you have going as a \"come here and will rip you a new one\" look. I still think a faming mace would be the way to go. But thats just me :D
Keep it up.

Waiting for some bitz to arrive, in order to finish, once and for all the Avy (that I can\'t wait to start painting), I proceeded with the paint job of the army.

Here are the 2 Wraithlords (I will have to figure out a name for these guys: any ideas?):

here\'s WL n.1:

and here\'s WL n.2:
Wraithlord007.jpg

Wraithlord009.jpg

Wraithlord010.jpg

Wraithlord011.jpg

and here\'s an early stage of the WIP I am working on while watching TV:
Wraithlord012.jpg

Wraithlord015.jpg

he will be an Autarch, based around Prince Yriel\'s pose, but built using an extra guardian I had liyng around, avenger head, autarch right arm.
I will work on it more in the next following days.

C&C are always welcome.

cheers
