Sacre Bleu! Mon dieu....

This kinda sucks. Like I said on WAMP it\'s when you\'re favorite TV show get\'s cancelled. I think this site is a great example of everyone looking at their stuff and thinking \"Man that\'s nice, I should get some\" and never getting around to it.

The pieces I have (not many) are excellent. I hope the people making those mini\'s find great homes to practice their trade. STUNNING figs that are even nicer in hand then on the net.

Get \'em while you can people!

Crap! I really wanted the one normal-looking mini out of their \"Demons\" box, but couldn\'t justify paying $50 for a box for one mini...

Sad really. It\'s a shame when a company that puts out quality stuff goes under.

Are you sure that it was supposed to be a smiling smiley there on the topic? :p

yeah well.. unfortunately their timing was crap because of the global economy. Shame really.

That\'s terrible news... they were one company who really were bringing something different to the table. I always liked seeing their stuff painted.

I guess there will be a mad rush for their stuff at salute.

Zora, what mini did you want? The angel looking one that\'s all wrapped up bondage style (you dog you;) ) \'cause I can swap you for it. I wanted the little crappy demons in the box and not that one so it\'s here in Canada for you if you like.

And that\'s what really get\'s me about this. It looked so good, but it took me ages of poking around the net to find a working copy of the rules. Gilvan Blight from here hooked a brutha up but it was a zero frills, free with a happy meal style of text file. After MONTHS that\'s all I was able to get.

They say they were translating, and were 80% done. It\'s ironic, \'cause with a push of a button and .012 seconds google was able to translate their \"going out of business\" message for me quite easily.

Say what we will about GW, it\'s not lack of effort on their part to market themselves that will see them dissapear. I\'m still a fan of GW, and I enjoy their product. I had MASSIVE hopes for Hell Dorado, and I just ordered every model for the Incursion game that\'s on hiatus or whatever.

My message to all is that being good at what you do as a sculptor, gamer, whatever just won\'t cut it. You gotta be good at business, or at least try as hard as you can and go down swingin\'. I\'m not pickin\' on Asmodee here as I don\'t know any of the story around this, but the fact that there\'s so many of us that liked what we saw from them but couldn\'t find any translation\'s of their stuff speaks a little.

Well lets see, high prices..hard to get..really only sold in France and refused to translate the rules into English because they feared they may be offensive to some.

Theirs a recipe for success..

Yeah - drooled over their stuff but lack of places to buy it in the non civilized world kinda made it hard for me to get too excited about em.

Sounds like a case of a bad marketing plan. I do not understand why they would not us the US as a source of renevue or wait so long to translate their products. Obviously our market is alot bigger than the market in France.

I was actually trying to become a distributor for them in the US. I guess that is not going to happen. :(

Is this a case of the recession affecting a company, or a dumb company with a poor plan going under from not operating to it\'s fullest capabilities.

The recession is affecting you by the fact that you have to listen to another radio station? Dude, people on these boards are losing or in fear of losing their jobs, houses, and who knows what. PERSPECTIVE!

Just to echo what Scott said, I completely agree with him. It takes more than just nicely sculpted minis being painted by well known artists to be able to make a profit.

Sure the economy is bad, but at least to a point, if a product that is well presented and well marketed makes me believe that I truly NEED it, I will buy it. And that\'s the beauty with minis, they don\'t cost an arm and a leg for the most part. Sure, with the economy the way it is I can\'t afford to get a new car every 3 or 4 years like I use to, I can\'t afford to take vacations every year like I use to, but spending 50 bucks a month on average on miniatures still seems feasible and I think that goes for most of us here.

My point being that I don\'t think the economy has much of an impact on Helldorado going under. I think it has more to do with bad advertising and as mentioned the lack of an English rule set.
Also truth be told as far as their whole product range goes, they weren\'t doing anything all too new or exciting. Sure for us hobbyists and painters the minis are great, but we are a small percentage of the market compared to the gamers. With games like Warhammer and Warmachine, small skirmish games don\'t seem so appealing, especially if they are not readily available at hobby shops/online stores.

Sorry about the rant folks. Bottom line though, yes it is sad to see another promising company go under, but until someone is willing to invest enough for international advertising as well as international product distribution this kind of thing will keep happening.

I liked the product as much as anyone but as stated, they really didn\'t make a conscious effort to become an actual business.. I remember Kraken and Helldorado coming out around (more or less) the same time. Kraken became open and overall, very customer friendly whereas Helldorado remained almost elitist in its business approach.. like everyone else is saying, new business can\'t work this way.. Ilyad should\'ve been the last to go like that IMO.
