The face is looking good.

Hold the brush and be precise there's no book for that unfortunately, I was blessed with many manual talents, I am good at it and I love it it's in my family.
I used to paint with absolutely know knowledge of anything in the 80's and 90's just by looking at what is on the box or in the magazines and try to imitate and surpass it, my only goal paint as nice as I can and be precise and extreme attention to details. I discovered "washes" at my second mini in 1984 by diluting to much the paint, I observed stuff and did it, I didn't spend my time in a book LOL Observations only and brush control.
I ma sorry but the true basic of miniature painting is brush control. If you don't control that you control nothing.

Oh man you guys have it so easy nowadays, zillions of DVD's trillions of websites, tutorials, friends... I was alone in my corner with my Walkman on.

Yep I totally agree with that, the skin on the body was only sketched on at that point... starting to smooth out the details at the moment, just mapping in the points of interest at the moment... I paint a little differently than just layer on. I like to map in where I want different points of interest and then blend it all together using various techniques. No need to be sorry, straight to the point is best.

I was not saying that speech because of the orc's arm, it was more spontaneous because of the other posts about book this or book that, it made old tero tilt, or course books are good, but facts are facts.

Books are valuable knowledge, there is a lot of mistakes that can be avoided and techniques that can be learnt by the knowledge that is contained within them. I totally agree that the only way to learn is by doing because it teaches you muscle memory and teaches the mind how to actually do, and the old fashion way of learning through repetition is the best by far the best way to learn any physical activity but there are some great minds that have made the effort to hand there knowledge down through a written medium and its a fantastic way to pass theory on. It enables people who are willing to learn the psychical side of an activity to learn more rapidly. Sometimes observing what someone else does is only communicated though a book. There needs to be a balance of learn by doing, learn by studying, learn by observing to get the best out of anything.

We have ppl at work who complete there training as a mechanic but when you put them on the floor to fix a vehicle they are totally hopeless, sure they spent 3 years studying but they got no doing experience which is very frustrating, can't beat a good old fashioned learn on the job and start young.

Pretty much got most of the colours on, lots of things that still need touching up but I'm going to do the weathering before that as incase I have to go back and fix something :)

Very very good work going on here again you can go as crazy as you want and in as many diff ways I like to do like yourself meaning block my colors in and shards and highlights then blend it all in .. But like ter and David like you guys say you each have your own ways of learning your brush control and muscle memory all I can say is each of you are very proficient and would love follow up pics for each stage or maybe pics for every Lil things I just love pics!!

Like everything a balance is the sanest way to go, Just imagine the possibilities of me having all the knowledge you guys are giving when start the hobby when I started.
I lost my time on the table maybe with endless test maybe not, it's always come in a flash, you get something and then you go HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! one more tool in your box. You guys don't have to suffer because I did, your right.

One ing along well you really pulled off the metal work nice clean edging of highlights and very good skin color...keep it up.

Yes agreed in this order of glazing orange then in other places ,be sure not to glaze the darker colors the blue/purple over the orange , the blue so in random spots orange then in other random spots purple then in other random spots blue...

One of the days I am going to post up some of the minis I painted in the mid-90ies, and some of what I painted around 2000, before I had the Internet to teach me stuff. I thought that was pretty much the max potential of my talent back then. My, was I ever wrong ...

Also: This is a great start, Epic. I suggest you try to look at Megazordman's WIP and the orc he is painting there, some great tips to be had.

Heck, you can even look at my WIP and look at the tips some of the guys gave me for painting my Morgaur (aka Chuthulu monster). Some of the things they suggested can help you as well.

Yes, blue would be just the ring then purple for the major part and at the end you can place your orange I guess.

Or just listen to BAM LOL

BAM, have u got an example of your 'random' spots lol

I've glazed orange, purple, blue in order and ended up with this.

Personally, I think it should be more graded, the change in color is too abrupt. But I admit that I didn't have a clue on what BAM and Tero was going on about... :p
