cheers for the comments. I've made some further progress. I've gone 10 of these guys so I'll display them as a final unit, rather than just a bannerman

I will plan some more detailed banners in the future, this banner doesnt really lend itself to having lots of detail on it with the sculpted sections on it, shame really

It's tough what your doing don't forget that, it will get better and better bro. Don't forget also that free hand takes loads of time.

Yeah, its tough ans time consuming but it takes me back to my younger days when i use oil on canvas which john has seen some of so I feel at home with it. It was johns idea to to use my past in my minis

Looks good and nice to see the results when a more traditional artist transfers their skills to 3D minis.

not wanna say I hate being right but oh well what can I say...it's a curse I wonder who pushed you to use your painting background on banners which are basically small canvasses...hmm mm I wonder :/ great job as I new you could pull it off.top tier work .A+student so far dave.I can't get over the two man team we are I tell this young lad something and 2 seconds later bang a beautiful execution...it's such a joy to watch the progression of dave.

Banner's looking great!

It is a little crowded on the left side though. I bet if you pull those wrinkle lines a little more up toward the dragons face it wil make the banner look like it is a little more bunched up on side and explain away the crowding. Does that make any sense?

yeah, that makes sense :) I do tend to do back and forth on everything untill it looks right.. its not the most fantastic banner sculpt, but its good practice :)

getting there,

I'm going for a more battleworn armor for these elves, mind u there properly gay enough to ignore the enemy to polish their shinies.. well not my elves, but its only lightly weathered, rhino hide wash, couple of crimson shades and a little purple in the real dark areas. I've mixed a hint of blue in the metal parts more to cool the metal down because the shades are rather warm.. added some scratches which need a little tidying up.. but thats the kind of armor the whole lot are getting

oh here is a tip for everyone, which I learnt years ago

if you have a colour which is very transparent (yellows are prone to this) add a tiny tiny tiny bit of opaque white to the colour and you will remove the transparency and the colour will cover much better. its called Colour Buffering, which I use a lot in the past.

here is a better photo of the latest work

I've also started base coating the little elf

Excellent work on this by far....sickening sickest of sick skills..ill type ill eat of the skillest....lol yes amazing.
color buffering is a great idea I'll add to this intensely illelligent pool of ideas..another way of color buffering if it a yellow or a red for example let's take flash git yellow guys you can do this one of two ways as epic said you can add a bit of white to now have the transparent color knock back the opacity or you can use a light brown like a snake bite leather and the yellow painted over that will cover much better.but I'll tell everybody this any new ideas I love to try so the next time I paint an imperial fist marine I'ma try how epic does it...why because I just may fi d it works a whole lot better..I'm big on trying everything from everybody and take what works..I suggest you'll do that very same thing.because let's face it epics not a young an anymore both his skills and his rate at which they are implemented have significantly excelled so he's now worth any advice he can give..he is simply a BAM,A DIGGS ,A TERONUS ,A CANNY,A DEMI, AND ANY ONE ELSE WHO IS A SKILL ED PAINTER.HES OUR BRUSH BROTHER.

Yes the banner is a pain with the little sculpted thingys all over, ive filed off the symbols on mine.
Good work fitting the dragon on such a small space :good:
Is it the photo or has the sword on top of the banner gone from TMM to NMM?
