See guys eps has the right idea to do comission.this isn't solely for the purpose of making money (which is always a nice thing),but this is for the mere fact that he's painting many models at once which is great for honing your skills as you know my tip:"THE MORE MODELS ,SURFACES,FOLDS AND THE WAY EACH HAVE A DIFF EVEN EXPOSE TO LIGHTER AND SHADOWS" THE MORE YOU PRAY TIME AND THE BETTER YOU GET.THAT ME BOY.

hehe, its a completely different skill to balance speed and quality, but its painting 40 is very repetitive and it really hones your muscle memory and as a result it speeds up and increases the quality of your painting. These Deathkorp will never win any comps but that isn't the goal for painting these, the main goal is to provide a service and to make sure the minis will look good on the table top for gaming purposes. The reason why people use people like myself to paint their armies is because they don't have the time, can't paint / wont paint. The fact is that I can 40 of these minatures in about 30 hours where as people who don't often paint will spent triple the time and still produce something of a lesser quality. The money I make keeps me painting

BTW I've done 10 of the minis in about 4 hours to this stage.

That is AWESOME speed, Epic! Care to share any secrets on how you do that? Airbrush and lots and lots of practise?

practice, practice, practice and an airbrush andf some more practice.... I'm getting more and more into competion / display painting now which I spend ALOT longer on each mini, like hours.. funny thing is I barely use the airbrush in competition projects and if I do I tend to go back over it with wet on wet blending

It takes a lot of discipline to stop at a point, every extra detail you paint that the customer hasn't really paid for is going to lower your hourly rate, but they customer is expecting what they pay for. Tis a fine art to balance speed and quality.

and to help speed things up I production line everything. so I'll basecoat the armour plates on 10 minis, then go back and shade them and then go back and highlight them. by the time u get back to the first mini the paint is dry ready for next stage

Cool beans. I'm not planning to do commisions, that would probably suck the fun out of it for me. But to get some of my own stuff done would be nice... assembly line actually helps a lot.

I enjoy commisions, it does get reptitive though and you have no choice but to paint where sometimes ud want to break. Its not for everyone. buit I paint all sorts of minis. I enjoy the reaction of my customers and thats what keeps me going

That's my boy epic..your finally getting why tons of projects that you have to "force through" is nothing more than practice practice practice."the more models that pass through your hands" the more muscle memory is triggered.
definition of muscle memory -n.p repetitively doing an action which fires the neuro receptors in the central nervous systems to ultimately do an action without consciously thinking about it. This is how one gets better at anything and everything ..from sports to painting miniatures.

lol the only thing that annoys me is that I have to keep stop starting on certain stuff, but its a boom in a way because I constantly see stuff with fresh eyes

I carnt paint commissions Tried before and I hated it, made me ill.
Ironically I get loads of people asking me to, the more I say no the more people ask !

I totally understand that about commissions; I would properly be the same if I had to rely on it to pay bills but I just pick up commissions as and when I feel, but it does mean my painting hobby is completely self sufficient which keeps the wife quiet
