Eragon [spoilers revealed!]

Hey guys,
I just got back from the movies after seeing Eragon on opening day! :D I absolutaly love the book series (Inheritance for those who don\'t know) and the movie definately did it justace!

All together a very fast paced, well edited, and well cast movie. I\'d give it a 7/10 in my book!

The special effects all around where funomanal! The dragon looked so real! The comunication between Eragon and Saphira were very well done. If they had made Saphira start to literally talk I would have left the theater!

There were some differences that were very significant. For one Roran leaves the spine to become part of Galbatorix\'s army. How can he fight the Raa\'zac if he\'s not back home? Two: The twins were entirely left out of the movie. Without the twins, Murtagh won\'t be purswaded to join Galbatorix and they won\'t fight Eragon and Rorin in the final battle of Eldest. An other big change is that the shade didn\'t injure Eragon. In the book he cuts his back with his poisoned blade and he is very much injured. In the movie, Saphira is injured but Eragon saves her.

I definately suggest you go see this movie. It\'s very very well done!

The trailers did look like crap! I was very skeptical about seeing it. By far the worst advertised film I\'ve ever seen!

My daughter just finished the book. I was going to read the book first before I saw the movie so I may wait till its on DVD as well. Although it may be a movie that you need to see in the theatre so not sure yet. Thanx for the tip.

My girls LOVED the first book, and liked the second, I really enjoyed Eragon, but have yet to read Eldest. I will be taking them to see Eragon during our Winter break from school.

Wasn\'t this a book written by a 16 year old kid? Not that a 16 year old can\'t write a fantasy book by the way.Just thought id read he was 16.

To be honest the trailers make me go eh.. another movie about dragons that will be so so. It seems to be typical now that at Christmas time we will get a eh\" fantasy movie because LOTR did so well for those three years. Last year I thought narnia was ok..worth my 9 bucks I paid but it wasnt a DVD rental/purchase when it came out.

I find it ironic that on chrismas day the last few years a pretty bloody horror movie opens and it always does really well..I wonder why..

The books were OK, though heavily derivative. The movie looks like crap, and it\'s got very bad reviews. The scripting is awful, and the acting is wooden, but the special effects are good. Eragon tried to speak noble and sincere like Orlando Bloom in LoTR, and the elf lady\'s hair is the wrong colour. Meh :D

Everything I\'ve seen about this movie seems contrary to your comments about its quality Angus, so it will be a download rather than a cinema visit for me. Sorry! Glad it didn\'t disappoint you though because something tells me you are a fan. I think it\'s that your suggested spoilers could in no way spoil it because I don\'t get what you are going on about. Now I know what it feels like to be a parent in a GW store!

I haven\'t read the books and don\'t really plan on doing so and as you say, a truly awful trailer did nothing to get me excited about it.

Like your latest av by the way Bill. Was around your age when I started to get down with the sounds of the Massive.

Maybe you need to be a fan to enjoy it? ???

I took my kids to see the last Star Trek movie, and I thought it was great. The only thing they would say is \"The space battle was pretty cool.\"

The weird thing about the Eragon books is that I\'ve never met a fantasy fan who has read them, even though they are bestsellers. I think they must have a Harry Potterish appeal to the masses, rather then one to die-hard fantasy buffs (although I do LOVE the Harry Potter books).

Perhaps people in our genre are too critical? Who knows... I still haven\'t had my coffee yet.

It looks derivative, cheap and nasty.

If you want an awe inspiring fantasy movie, go and see Pan\'s Labyrinth. Makes stuff like this and LOTR look like pantomime...

What I wanna know is why no-one can see the potential for making dragonlance films .. .. much better than Eragon.

Because they\'d be rubbish. 99% of all sword/sorcery/fantasy movies are utter crud. \'Proper\' directors won\'t touch them with a barge pole.

Nah, I think ur wrong .. look back at films like Labyrinth, legend and willow .. all great films .

The lotr series was fantastic but I agree there has been a lot of tat along the way. Just need somone with the right vision and not just a director that thinks \"These books were popular lets hash them up and cash in on em,\"

I cannot possibly watch that movie. Don\'t care about the qualitiy of the acting or script, but I looked at the actors and thought that they don\'t look even a bit as they ought to. Eragon is 14 in the book, but he looks like 17-18 in the movie, they just look all wrong. It would spoil the last book for me if I would watch it.

Before you go watch this movie, I suggest looking in here first.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/eragon/

I have hard time to believe that so many people could be SOOO wrong but current rating of \"Eragon\" is 14% as opposed to Pan\'s Labyrinth, already mentioned, that stands at 97%

As for the book. The term \"derivative\" often used to describe this book is just a polite way to say that this book is borderline plagiarism of several other works from the genre including LOTR, Anne Mccaffrey and Star wars and Harry potter. Don\'t get me wrong literary influences could be found in any good book - the list above is not exception. However, when the \"mentor\" type hero in Eragon is a) a magician, b) smokes pipe, c) while smoking pike produces colored rings that he makes dance, c) rides white horse named S... S... S... Snowfire, d) fights bad guys named Ur...Ur...Ur.. Urgals, it is not literary influence anymore.

As for the quality of writing... at some point while reading I started to circle all clichés I stumble upon and the number was enormous. \"Conflagration of pink\" (quoted from one of the early chapters) is my favorite and reflects rather well the writing abilities of the author and clear lack of technical editing. Unfortunately, this book illustrates rather well that with proper advertising pretty much anything will go.

The book I actualy loved. You guys are just a bit critical and I respect that. I loved LotR and if Eragon is similar (Well no duh it is! All fantasy books are based off of Tolkien in some way. Try to show me one that wasn\'t!) Then that\'s not a bad thing. Eragon has very strong charactors and an epic story line. You very much care for all of them. That\'s what makes books good, personal connections that allow you to feel the book through the charactors.
Well I enjoyed them anyway. :p

I ripped all the CDs from my dad :D They\'re one of my favourite bands at the moment. I was going to see them live in February, but it had to be on a Tuesday :( I just listened to all their albums this weekend while in Lodon. Fantastic stuff

Come on. None of those films deserve the adjective \'great\'. Labyrinth was good - Mainly down to employing Brian Froud on the concept work again. I preferred Dark Crystal though. Legend was entertaining and proves my previous point: get a decent director! Willow is just a kids movie slotted around some ILM effects testing. Watchable at best.

Greatest fantasy movie ever made?

Wizard Of Oz. Pan\'s Labyrinth comes pretty close though...

14?!?!!! He\'s 16 and a half in Eragon and turns 17 in Eldest. He\'s 17 in the movie. Not much of a differance. :p

Jake

No, that\'s not right. In the first book he starts out as a 14 year old and has his 15th birthday not long after he flees his hometown. It quite certain about that, though I don\'t want to read through it all right now to find the appropriate quote.
