Escape from Goblin Town

Hello!

First time poster here, I recently got back into painting the games-workshop miniatures and would appreciate some feedback and tips on my progress so far.

I finished the figures from a starter paint set, and have the Escape from Goblin Town set ready to go! (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/c...sp?catId=cat970009a&rootCatGameStyle=athletic). In painted order (I think I got better as I went).

I think areas I need to improve on are obviously the detail areas, and priming the figures which I currently don't do. Also I want to check I am not doing something fundamentally wrong with my tools and paints!

Brushes Used:

  • Citadel Large Brush
  • Citadel Detail Brush
  • Citadel Starter Brush
  • Citadel Small Dry Brush

Paints Used:

  • Rakarth Flesh
  • Steel Legion Drab
  • Pallid Wych Flesh
  • Stormvermin Fur
  • Leadbelcher
  • Carroburg Crimson
  • Seraphim Sepia
  • Stirland Mud

Procedure:

For the most part I followed the booklet instructions with a Rakarth Flesh base, Carroburg Crimson wash, Stormvermin Fur, Leadbelcher and Steel Legion Drab details, Pallid Wych Flesh highlights and a Seraphim Sepia detail wash. Stirland Mud was used for the mounting base. The first two I painted straight to the plastic with Rakarth Flesh, overall I felt the colors looked too grey so for the third I painted an extra layer of Pallid Wych Flesh to prime. The last figure I really went to town with the Carroburg Crimson wash.

Thanks for reading, and I am looking forward to being part of the forums :curl-lip:

Welcome. What "problems" you have depend on what you are shooting for: gaming or display. Currently I'm on a small screen, so can't delve into any "display" feedback.

Gaming however, I can give you feedback. Looks perfectly acceptable. Go play. About the only thing I would add would be to the bases. They are a bit plain and uniform. Luckily, even if these are sealed, you could improve them just a tad by adding a random clump of grass on one base, a large painted rock on another, some battle debris on a third, maybe leave the fourth as-is, and then some combination of the above for the last. Just suggestions of course. It adds a variety to the bases, and pushes the "finished" state a tad higher.

Thanks PegaZus I haven't decided if I will use them for play yet, I got them more for display. I have, perhaps foolishly, got some grand plans for a display of the whole town and the current based will just me temporary :)

Since my last post I've tried some new techniques and touched up some rough areas. Still got a long way to go in skill but I would really appreciate some opinions of the different styles before diving in to the remaining 30 odd :D

Yes they look quite good... Try to read some tutorial following this link
There are a lot of resources you can easily follow few of them at the beginning. Try to avoid using to much wash, you need to spend more time to build your highlight and shadow based on different colors...
It is a long path of patience, but really rewarding...
