That's a nice clean start Exiles :good: Was the black wash to help see the detail or is it your shading element? Or a bit of both I suppose :) I'm intrigued. I've seen minis washed at an early stage to photo sculpts more clearly before but haven't ever given it a go as a painting stage.

I feel I've asked this before but are you going to include the mouthpiece? I'm a bit unsure about it myself, what's your thinking?

Cheers, B.

wash was to show details but is an oil paint wash (leaves no water marks). I will not be putting the mouth piece in as not to keen on it. Only has the base and shade on flesh at the moment hope to get highlighting tomorrow. Wanted to post as when its on the big screen can spot any problems and if I do not some one will:dont-know:

Hello exilesjjb,

nice work, but may I suggest to soften a little bit your blendings? It look a little bit rough or tiny little "dirty". I dont know why, but I would rather prefer smooth shiny skin for this model.

Greeting, Taggi.

some of the cleanest resin sculpts I have had my sweaty mits on well worth a look

*shakes head* I've seen the gallery at Studio McVey, and there's a bit of a reason for that. 'From Warhammer World Museum', 'From the collection of Jes Goodwin', 'From the collection of John Blanche'. If you make pieces(painting jobs as wll as dioramas) for that level, then you probably know what you're doing and how to do it. :) Also, they make stricly limited numbers of pieces. 750 is the number noted on the available pieces. And they make short runs, and remake the molds as soon as quality drops. All of which means you get top quality, and at a remarkably low price for the sculpts. Of course, when you get into commisions/painted pieces...
But all in all, I'm much impressed with what I've seen of Mike and Alison McVey. And I only wish I had the money to buy a painted piece. :)

Can't wait to see what you do with the raven/spell/thingamabob coming out of his mouth. I browsed through that site (in awe) and this one was by far my favorite figure.

loads of frustration today with this spent an hour on the hair and frankly it looks like a 30 sec drybrush job, should have left it then i guess but went on to do the eyes OMG he look like a startled bullfrog, so the last 5 min of today was spent painting the base colour over the eye sockets again will try again tomorrow. I hate eyes even if I get one that passes muster the other will look like an owl on LSD.

Hi Exiles, hope you're starting to feel better :)

QUOTE: "I hate eyes even if I get one that passes muster the other will look like an owl on LSD"

LOL Yep :good: Not an uncommon feeling I suspect. Look out for figures with one eye obscured by a fancy helmet/hair or give all your minis green stuff eyepatches!

I don't think the hair looks drybrushed, not enough lumpy bumpy bits on show :D I think the most successful part is the top of the head in the bottom photo. Those three main streaks of gleam work well, the mid section to the left hand side looks okay too, just the tips & the lower right hand side that lose it a bit. I've only had a couple of goes at this "ignore the sculpted hair strands & get the reflections on" business and a little girl with a tight ponytail is a lot simpler!

With that pose I'd accept him with closed eyes :D ;)

Keep it up :good: B.

I'm always surprised at the amount of people who do the eyes after the skin.
Can't work that logic out personally, as to me the eyes are the "Lowest/Deepest" point in the figure.
Plus as they are always a fiddliest (fiddly-est) part of painting I prefer to get them done and work the skin to suit.

Or you could go the blind eye route: milky white all the way through. Would seem to fit ths model, and it's always pretty striking (and easy).

I must admit that is the way I go usually but plain old forgot on this one was looking forward to the flesh so much slipped my mind, will not again:dont-know:
