I was wondering if there is a brand of paint brushes that is generally accepted as good- I am currently using GW\'s brushes and I think they are ok but not great.

brushes

I am pretty hard on my brushes, but I did buy some Winsor and Newton Series 7 brushes and they have held up much better than some of the others I have used (GW, Loeb, toothbrushes) lol

If I actually owned some, it would probly be W&N series 7 but I dont have any because I dont have a local supplier that sell them.

W&N Series 7

 These brushes rule. I have used everything from \"3 for a dollar\" brushes and up. Last month I broke down and bought a W&N S7 (size 0) for over $10. (OUCH!!). Having used it since then, I WILL be going back for more. The points don\'t curl or separate. The \"0\" is reaching into places that I would use a 3/0 or 5/0 before.

The Loew Cornells come in a distant second.

Bendy - you in the US?

WN Series 7 second to none

I have a couple of these brushes. As Wren pointed out on another post, they are on sale at http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-supply-stores/online/127

Windsor Newton also has the Cirrus 110. They are Kolinsky sable, like the Series 7, but a lot cheaper. I don\'t know how well they hold up for mini painting. I only have one, and like the S7\'s I have better.

Vallejo has what is supposed to be a comperable brush at a much lower price, but I haven\'t bought any yet.

I\'ve got a couple Renaissance Ink Cat\'s Tounge brushes (AKA Filberts), but like all synthetics, the tips are starting to curl. WHAAA! I want to get some sables of this same brush shape, to see how they stand up.

If you want an inexpensive sable, there\'s a Lowe Cornell with a yellow handle in 6/0 that is very nice. Easier to find than WN Series Seven.

But all in all, Windsor Newtons rule for detail painting.

Paintbrush Choice

I use W&N Series 7 (00 & 1) they are awsome brushes. I also use Isabey 6229 (02 & 1) They both use the absolute best Kolinsky Sable, which is remarkably resilient and able to hold a point almost unnaturally. They are worth investing in as well as some high quality brush soap (The Masters Brush Cleaner) or pure Olive Oil soap (chemical free). Good brushes have improved my technique no end. GW brushes are fine for basecoating and drybrushing though.
