Firearms & co... hate or love them?

Do you dig firearms and weapons ? Do you hate them ?

Personally I like them, going often to fire training camps with pistol (glock 23) or carabine (an old beretta). I have a professional carbon long bow with compensated stabilizers too.

Personally I like the feeling I get when I hit the target (especially on bow and carabine with scope), it\'s quite satisfactory indeed!

Here in Italy is really difficult to achieve the permission for concealed carry. You can buy a pistol, but you must keep it safe at home, needing various permissions to use it for sport shooting.

I\'m not gonna start spewing rhetoric or quoting legislation here.

I shall simply say - Guns are cool, firing guns is cool. Using that coolness to kill people is NOT cool.

Being in the UK they aren\'t really something I see in day to day life and I live in Nottingham, which is, unless I\'m mistaken, the gun crime capitol of our fair country! I\'m pretty thankful for that lack of exposure. I\'m thinking that being on the wrong end of one, or feeling that I need to own one is probably a most uncool experience.

I did go to a range when I visited the US. Seemed like something I should do to get the full American experience, along with having a huge meal at a 24 hour diner and doing a shit load of shopping!

Tried out a Glock 17, a Magnum and an AK47 and I found it was a very odd and rather hollow and unsatisfying experience.

Perhaps it\'s because I tend to think about things too much, but as soon as I had a loaded gun in my hand all the ways that it could damage me or someone else rushed through my mind and the first few shots with the Glock were a rather terrifying experience. Once I had got through a clip or two though it was how normal it started to feel that became more terrifying. That gun is so balanced, and has so little kick it might as well be a toy.

Next the Magnum, and again the terror of firing it came, what with the kick. Didn\'t like it in any way to be honest. It hurt my wrists a good deal and the whole Dirty Harry mode just didn\'t kick in.

The AK was just silly. Shot it in controlled bursts at first, then just battered a clip out. Still not that impressed.

In all I felt like a bit of a cock after the whole experience to be honest. I wasted a fair bit of cash buying the ammo, shat myself for a fair bit of the time because I had a deadly weapon in my hands, would have enjoyed myself more playing a first person shooter, and have had to exert just as much skill. I did get a little bit of the \'Mwahaha! Feel the wrath as I unleash my clip into you in seconds Mr Target\' feeling, but in retrospect I felt like a complete tit because of all the nastyness guns have done since their invention.

In all I think guns should only be allowed in movies. Wars... well we can settle them with words, understanding, rock paper scissors, or failing that, ninjas!

During my time in the reserves, I mostly remember my rifle (C-7, basically an M-16) being this farking heavy pain in the ass that I had to lug around on exercise. I wasn\'t the worst shot ever, or the best. Firing in full-auto didn\'t give me the rush that some people seem to feel, I don\'t quite get that.

I could probably still field-strip the thing in the dark though, boy did I learn to appreciate a good bottle of CLP (\"Cleans-Lubes-Protects\").

I would prefer \"throw the national leaders involved into a pit together, and shoot the survivor\". But hey, maybe that\'s just me.

Agreed. They have problems with each other? Let them sort out amongst themselves and leave us poor citizens out of it.

As far as guns, I don\'t have anything against them or people who use them; I just don\'t care for them personally.

Growing up I split my time between my uncle\'s ranch and my grandparent\'s farm, so rifles were very common. I learned all about them at a young age.

My father taught me about semi-automatic weapons, handguns and how to make explosives (I\'m serious), so I was familiar with all of those. Never saw what the big deal was about shooting things.

well enough said, I think it\'s bible.

I mean, honestly without hypocrisy, i REALLY like the feeling of a shot, but i like mostly concentrating on a target (without the screaming rage \"BWAHAHAH FEEL THE PAIN MR. TARGET lol\") then reload, calm down and concentrate again. It\'s kinda relaxing for me.
The feeling I get is similar to the same one you get when you score a perfect hit with darts or similar things, but using a gun requires a lot of responsibility because with darts you can\'t hurt seriously other persons.
armed civilians are a total X factor, they can prevent normal crimes, but the risk of doing something stupid is REALLY high. I think a gun should be used ONLY for sport shooting, and ABSOLUTELY NOT to demonstrate \"coolness\"

Ah, but if there is a zombie invasion we have cricket bats, swingball, Dire Straits LPs and perhaps a little red on us.

One time I stole a bunch of marketing books in highschool. I brought them to my friends place, and we tested so many guns on them. The dual Colt 45 1911\'s vs text book was fun.

Own several.

Will prolly be buying several more once I\'m home.

I\'m more into black powder arms than modern ones - just something more satisfying about kissing the barrel after each shot.lol

And of course the taste of sulfer in the morning!:D

WELL... I love guns and what they do to terrorists... or anybody that has the ballsees to mess with me. This is one of my favorite things to talk about too, besides mini painting. I am a 45 ACP guy myself, besides anything that goes boom (C4)... So, yah, I love guns but only a little bit more than explosives because I can play with them moe often (and bullets are relatively cheaper):D ...

Also, Lono... if it wasnt for these scumbag politicians hating on each others stinkin shit, I would be jobless... lollollol:twisted:

for those who own a firearm: can you describe models and other infos?

my pistol is a Glock 23 cal.40 not compensated with three dot noctilumina sights, black brushed steel and rubber poliurethane grip, 17 rounds mag

Glock-23.jpg

it\'s a really excellent weapon, reliable, with smooth and small recoil, powerful and compact. 37 pieces makes maintenance really simple

I grew up with guns. Between Dad\'s souveneir\'s from 3 wars and and a few key years on a ranch, they were just a regular part of the world around me. I think I learned to shoot sometime around 1st or 2nd grade. I do remember that granpa\'s old 22 was in my room when I was 8 and we moved to the city. I remember going to bed one night having made up my mind to go shooting the next day just like I would on the ranch. As I woke up it dawned on me that there was a big problem. You weren\'t supposed to shoot in the direction of houses, but now there were houses everywhere. So, where do you shoot? I was shocked to find out you had to go somewhere special. The idea that you couldn\'t just set up bottles and plastic soldiers in the back yard and... Oh well. From then on shooting was a regular part of going to the dump, which I kid you not was the absolute highlight of my week. (I also got to drive on the dirt roads out to the dump.)

For a time, I shot in a rifle club which was a lot of fun. We were reasonably good, so we got to travel a bit to get to state and national championships. I bought a bunch of guns as soon as I started working in my dad\'s submarine sandwich shop. Had quite the arsenal up until a couple years ago. The 44 mag at the age of 14 might have been a mistake; my wrists have popped and cracked ever since. But mostly the pleasure was in shooting well whatever the caliber.

Haven\'t fired a gun in over 10 years though, and except for a brief day out with a buffalo gun, it was at least 10 years before that. Sold off most of my old collection. I really enjoyed black powder for awhile. Loved shooting my old 58 caliber rifle. I still have that one, but the 44 mag is probably going to go soon.

Now guns actually make me nervous which is surprising to me. When I was younger, gun safety was so automatic, I didn\'t have to think about it. I remember my old rifle team went to an amusement park in Nashville where we all piled in for one of those water pistol games where you all race to fill up a balloon till it pops. As the lady running the booth would go back and forth and replace the balloons we would all point the water pistols away from her; it was just a reflex, and we all had it down pat. These days I would have to think about it. It would be like takig up a dangerous hobby for the first time.

So, I guess you could say I have a lot of fond memories of guns. They are memories though, and I\'m not likely to start up again. Too many other things on the agenda; too many other ways to spend time and money.
