Tank for the feedback. I have strayed pretty far from the higher contrast from what I see in most war hammer painting somewhat on purpose. I'm trying to keep a more 'gritty' looking group of Orcs and Goblins.
The red is the theme color I chose for this crew of night goblins. I also wanted sullied looking robes. In hindsight I can see how the bloodied look in the creases takes away from the contrast. But he is the first guy, so I'm happy just to be learning. Also, although the pictures don't show it well, the right side of his hood and face do have a blood splatter effect. I considered not doing the blood effect, seeing I'm a rookie and did have a lot of hours into this one guy, but I figured everyone has to start somewhere.
I'm planning on continuing the rest of these night goblins in a similar fashion, but I do have a boss who I have started to base coat already. I will definitely apply a higher contrast on my bosses. I don't mind if the minions do get a little lost as long as the bosses stand out. The leader I've chosen for this clan, ( my night goblins of the blood moon as I've designated them) is the night goblin boss with great axe and trophy rack.
Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm In this for the painting more than the playing myself. I've been overly impressed with the amount of support that is out there for this hobby. I did not really do this guy alone. I had so much help in form of blog posts, on this site and others, and of course YouTube.
