Well, i finally got photoshop installed onto my own computer last night and was able to get these pics done on my easily rather than kicking my bro off his, so i\'d thought id share them,

They\'re one of the newish Space Marine command squads, done in the Ultramarines scheme (original eh ;) ), mounted on a display base.

If possible, i\'d like some feedback on them as i\'m always looking to improve my skills (arent we all).

Ok, my first question is the wear and tear on the armour, does it look right?, i started these models using nmm, but once the first was finished, i decided i wanted some batte-dammage, though i\'d only ever done it with real metallics, anybody have any tips or links to tutorials for nmm battle-damage?

The Commanders sword was a little bit of a problem too, i think i did it ok, but not amazing, since i don\'t paint too many 40k models i dont get much practise at this stuff, maybe needs harsher highlights or something else?

However, i\'m overall very pleased with these, especially the banner which actually came out as well as i\'d hoped, i took quite a while on the apothecary too, not really sure why it took so much longer but white is a very difficult colour to paint on such an intricate model,

overall, including the base approximately 50 hours work has been put in, i can\'t say exactly how much lost count after about 3 hours ??? it really does feel like i\'ve been working on them forever, they are currently still in waiting in my gallery, or i\'d have posted the links, but your comments and suggestions and all constructive critisism will be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Joe

Sweet marines! I love the commander, especially the gold. I think his sword is very well blended, but it might me missing something. Maybe you could line it with a color because it all runs together, but I don\'t know. -James

Hey joe, love them, absolutely love them!

The banner looks even better than when I saw it the other day and all of us watching you were astouned at how easily you just sat there and painted it lol.

I think the battle damage is OK. I didn\'t really notice it was done with real metallics until you said but it might just be the photos.

The power sword is OK too, maybe some brighter highlights but it looks pretty cool as it is, and different as everyone seems to do them blue.

The white on the apothecary is really nice how was it done? Also what colours did you use on your NMM? gold and silver, the NMM is really nice (especially on the commander).

The base is great too and finishes them off nicely, not cluttered and nice and simple. Really fantastic work on these, you can post the link to them even if they havent been approved yet so we can vote now etc.

nice one, although I think the shading on the white marine could have been better
it looks like you just washed him with grey paint and that\'s it, it needs some more depth IMO

but overall a fantastic piece, especially how the different bases fit into the big one

Wicked...

...they\'re a lovely squad! Very little constructive criticism other than to darkline the bottom of the swordblade where it meets the hilt,there\'s not enough definition there and like someone said just seems to flow (which is great) also the little thingy (technical term for sword blade adornments) on the sword blade wants lining.Other than that they\'re among the finest Marines I\'ve seen! I\'d love to see you do some in your own chapter colours, especially after seeing the work on your banner. A very impressive piece, cheers! :D

Ok, so they\'re active now, and if you want to take a a look, and vote if you have time, it would be very helpful and appreciated very much, cheers.

My Gallery

Ansquer - Thanks very much, have you seen any of Cyrils space marines, they will blow you mind

James - thanks, i agree about the sword, lining it would have helped a lot for definition, what dosen\'t show up very well is that the sword does actually change from dark red to light red, though the picture dosen\'t show it very well.

Stef - :) thanks, i\'m sorry but there\'s a slight misunderstanding about the battle-damage, i was trying to say that in the past i had only painted battle-damage with real metallcs, which is why it was hard to get it to look right with nmm this time. The gold nmm is a basecoat of scorched brown, highlighted up to bubonic brown and then highlighted up to skull white, the steel is about 5 parts codex grey to 1 part black to start, which is then worked up to fortress grey and then to skull white. I couldn\'t tell you what colour was in the white, i think it was a mix of scorched brown, fortress grey, bleached bone, chaos black and skull white, it was really one of those times you keep adding colours \'till it looks right, and in actuall life the white looks a lot better, with more contrast, as the photo has washed the contrast out a bit. (Also are you down vets on tuesday?)

Trevor - Thanks, it\'s apreciated.

Tim - Cheers aswell :)

Corvus - The white as i explained a little earlier does actually have more contrast irl, thanks aswell.

Broke n English - Thank-you, yes definately needs more definaton on the sword, i hopefully will get it better next time. New chapters is going to be difficult for me, creating a believable one would be very hard because i can only come up with corny names (death marines anyone? ) but i was thinking of doing blood ravens, it\'s all a matter of money atm though.

Cheers again everyone you\'re all a great help :)

Thats cool it\'s the same with me, my commission work is advertised on my ebay auction ,also random people who like my work sometimes ask, but i suppose the best way is to get your stuff out there and let people know whats what.
