Hi all,
Here is the latest mini I\'m sculpting, a big nasty troll. It is 30mm scale so 54mm to the top of the head - normal troll size I guess.
The figure is done in FIMO classic, champagne color. That one seems to have the best consistency for me, and balances firmness with stickiness.
The first part is the base body, before most of the detail and with only the skin folds and cracks. I used a pretty soft wire armature, 20 guage copper, for the main limbs and torso. The only reason is that I like to bend it while working, at least until the first \"firing\" in the oven. The head was done separately as it was fairly complicated to put together for me. I also like to rotate the head around and find a good position before finally securing it and making the neck.
So once the main body was attached, I put on a bunch of fungal growth all over, with small mushrooms and one big shroom. The ears have a wire support as they were too fragile to make othereise. greenstuff would have been strong enough to do them without a wire but epoxy putties hurt my skin, and I tend to lick the sculpting tool so my lips end up burning - not a good sign.
OK, what I\'m not sure about is how folks will react to a troll that doesn\'t wear pants. This is supposed to be a wild creature (IMO), so it does not feel the need for clothes. The only thing down there to give the appearance of clothing is a patch of fungus. Now that may be going too far, especially considering that his junk is visible behind his belly amid that fungus. Maybe I should make a PG version with no visible junk and some rags in front and back.
So the next part will be the weapon (tree branch with bugs) and base (more bugs and mushrooms and other growth). If there is anything anyone wants to add, just let me know.
Eric
