Forté's corner - various works in progress

Hi and thank you for taking a look.

I've resisted posting on CMoN for quite a while as I kept seeing amazingly painted miniatures and models from companies I'd never heard off.

Now, a brief intro. I've been building and painting for a year or some and was introduced at the age of six. With an Airfix T-Rex of all things. I only knew about the Airfix type kits for years and only discovered fantasy models and acrylic paints at the age of 11 and was well and truly hooked. This was Games Workshop, who I worked for in '96 at the age of eighteen. Since leaving GW in '98 I painted sporadically and almost stopped when I had kids. But the hobby bug was always there and for the past few years I have tried to get back into painting but never quite managed it. Until 2013 when some new friends made me aware of Malifaux. This led to looking at models from other companies and finding sites like CMoN and Massive Voodoo. So I gave it another go and this is the result.

As you can see the photos are not the greatest, but I'm working on that.

Soon after Forge World released the Kakophoni models which I loved. At the same time B&C ran a Call of Chaos painting event so I thought "why not" and managed to produce these.

That involved my first use of resin, magnets, painting marble, repositioning legs, and first time in years I painted a squad. Finally something had clicked and I was back to enjoying painting again. Although, at night and without a permanent area set up. But learning about wet pallets had seriously changed the way I use my paint.

My next painting was another squad and took ages. I nearly lost all motivation with them. But friends and B&C members kept me going on them.

Finally I finished them which was pleasing to say the least.

Now to current stuff. B&C are currently holding their annual E Tenebrae Lux painting event so I decided to give it a crack with a couple more Chaos models I had in mind so here's the current progress.

These are just past half way I'd say so still plenty to do.

Well I'll end it there and thank you for looking. C&C is greatly welcome :nailbiting!::brushlick:

You on a Waaagh to get turquoise used more often? :claply: Am with you on that, that and orange, much underused colours.
Related to that, you might love the Coal Black paint from p3, it's a dark turquoise, great highlight for black and shade for regular turquoise.

Ex-GW Londoner here too, but think it was 95 I left. There's an ex-gw "group" on this site that doesn't see much action, but a similar group on facebook gets a lot.

Cheers for the reply Wyrmypops. Was Plaza and Hammersmith for me. I'll have a look for the FB group.

I was trying to think of a colour when starting my Slaanesh stuff that wasn't your standard pink or purple (I'm not saying those are bad, they just seem to be the main colours used). I was happy with how the dress came out on the Belle and just thought "you don't see turquoise marines too often". But yeah, it does look like it's my favourite :) Thing is, it's an old GW hexagonal pot so I'm fine till I run out.

Coal black sounds interesting. I often highlight black with turquoise, among other colours. As for shading though, I use a blue was for armour but for cloth I add red which is opposite on the colour wheel.

To anyone else, this is peculiar. He checked out the facebook group and found an old work mate on it. Turned out to be me.

@Builder_Anthony. Thanks for the comment.
Can see what you mean. I was trying to look at old Victorian clothing when painting her due to the Malifaux setting and it was all new to me being my first non-GW figure. I do have another two plus other crew members to get round too (and plenty of other minis too) so anything from here will be taken on board when painting future models.

So I've done some work on the Forgefiend turquoise. I may try and add some marble look to the larger plates on the back to break it up a little. I'm also undecided on how to do the large top plate and Slaanesh rune but I'm open to ideas.

I've also started to build a Chaos Stormsword

Well, it needs corrupting and damage.

And on the non-40k front. I found a socket for a Brettonian Squire I am planning. Needs to dry out though. But I did a very quick sketch so I don't forget the idea.

Thank you for looking and feel free to throw in ideas and constructive criticism.

Time for another little update on the Sorcerer and Fiend.

I've managed to finish the trim, even though the gold gave me a bit of a struggle on the Fiend. Still a few areas to finish up but it's mostly highlighting so hopefully done by the end of the month. I do need to work on taking better photos though.

Hey Forte,
It's nice to see that you never really stopped painting and have picked it up again. I especially enjoy looking at the use of blue and purple in your minis, they are wonderfully executed. Have you ever thought to pair it with some bright yellows, it would really pop!

Hi MiniatureMistress. Thank you for the compliment.

So far I've only really been doing basic Slaanesh stuff for a possible army so been trying to keep it a bit more pastel and using gold as a yellow tone.

I do have some very colourful and bright Noise Marines in mind. Using some expressionist art for reference and inspiration so more reds, yellows, oranges and greens will come into play there to help make them stand out.

I have a couple more pieces on the table at the moment for this force but plan to try a fantasy mini after for a change of style. Attempt to make it look as natural as I can.

Been quite productive since my last post. Two more miniatures finished (which is quick for me) and a few more just about to start. Should have posted WIP on these two but real life got in the way really.

Here they are.

Stormsword 'Soul Flayer' (formerly the 'Extremis')

So next on the table is the old Nazgob Orc shaman which I aim to paint in a Brian Froud style pallet and build my first socket base. I also aim to paint my Malifaux crew master and totem, Seamus and the Copycat Killer.

Thank you for looking and hopefully I'll have some more 'in progress' pics soon.
