well, the brits are taking over! matt Parkes went there together with Joe Hill, Mark Tait and richard Henderson who all placed, with matt winning a gold, i believe Joe and Mark getting silver and Rich a bronze.....
it\'s going to be interesting now that the usual suspects are doing the travel thing(don\'t forget Mike Anderson cleaning out at germany last year), it lets different styles be pitched against eachother, which normally would be very rare.
I\'m going to spain this year(and the UK one ofcourse), and want to go to one of the States side ones next year. although I\'m still to enter for the first time in a serious manner in the UK one this year(well, I wasn\'t allowed before.....:flame:) so i\'m really excited, and i\'m really curious how I\'ll fare against everybody.

I wish i could enter anything else then open category .... silly rules here in germany, hope they´ll change them, since i really don´t like the open ...

Congrats to my countrymen! I hope to head across with Mike Anderson for GD Germany again this year - although fortunately for us he is confined to the open comp now... but it does mean he is going head-to-head with Sascha/Goatman which should be interesting!

*chuckles* I\'ll enter, but i dont know if it counts as \'competing\' as such!

german GD is on 29th of august in cologne.

The thing with the open cat is based on quite silly rules for germany.

After 2002 they decided to make new rules after several people won more then 1 demon. Besides this some totally silly people made silly shouts on Franz Sander when he got his demons there. So GW thought they should change the rules to attract more little kiddies to the golden demon.

You know lil kiddies spent lots of money there, even if GW gives NO discount, while average contest painters come there for the pure contest.

Now the new rules said, that someone, who won a category in the contest is only allowed to enter the open cat in the next years GD. Those who placed 2nd or 3rd can enter whatever they want, only the firsts of the cats are banned to open. I think this way they also wanted to raise the level of the open comp, which was a bit lousy (or lets say weak) here in germany. And you know, the open comp can be the most expensive cat out there. Personally i don´t like it that much, because you can´t compare a single mini with a really big diorama - both might be entries in open ...

Now the funny thing is, i placed first in 2002 so i had to enter the open in 2003. Stupid as i was i did so and thought it might be a good challenge, but it wasn´t. All former years winners were clever enough to take a break :D So i placed first in open, which means i´m still restricted to this damn cat this year.

Mike Anderson won first in 40k single, so he has to enter there too ;)

Oh and btw. there is another rule with open comp in germany: If someone gets 3 first places - it doesn´t matter in which time - he is only allowed to enter open for the rest of his life here in germany lol

Really hope they change this crap ...

The entries for France this year are just astounding. Looking at the work by Allan C and Cyril in the top 10 right now (last 7 days) is completely humbling. I think I need to re-evaluate my work. Wish I knew how they do metallics like that. We are seriously in need of articles from those guys (in English) :)

i cannot believe

goatman: I am agree with you...those rules are so stupid...this will make open competition like the real golden demon and the rest of the categories will decrease their level..it is a shit that a country that were improving his paint level every year ( like germany) will be perjudicated because a really stupid rule that only answer to economic interest of german games workshop...i cannot understand it!!!. you should write letters to put this rule off.
come to spain next year!! we will apreciate your incredible work!!!.

shroud: you are telling the truth, but in fact those minis are 1000 times better in reality..i saw it and it can only be painted by the hand of gods.

that, and now that he is the new full-time sculptor at fanatic/specialist games, he is a proper GW staffer and can ONLY enter open... at any GD!

oh completely forgot about that ;)

But this means he needs to enter the staff category, since they have their own competition and can´t compete against other non-staff painters ....

thanks all for your comments on froggies job and my own job. :)

a little explanation about how i make metallics:

1_undercoat: white
2_base coat: boltgun metal
3_ i use many black glazes (very diluted chaos black) to make the shades and create a blending from boltgun to nearly black. (like on the axe of my last ork, first photo)
4_then for the highlights i use mithril silver in glaze (diluted mithril, with acrylic matte medium). blending from boltgun to mithril.
5_now for the last lights i use enamels paints (humbrol). and i make blendings with white spirit.

and of course on mini like orks or nurgle, i use brown and red washes for the rusty effect. bestial brown, snakebite leather, mixed with blood red or black...
