Not a practice I am a fan of: banning people from contests.

Or at least for reasons of just them being \'too good\' or whatever. I\'ll happily concede that idiots entering other painters minis into contests deserve everything they get (and just to be clear I\'m referring to the multiple cases of this in demon awards over the last few years. Not Alexi)

I won only one time - in 2004. I take first places in FB Regiment, FB Monster, 40K Single and second place in FB single. After this I was banned :drunk:

Second, PP made it a $1200 prize. Unlike GW, they put their money where their mouth was.

What crap - As far as I am aware, the UK slayer sword cost nigh on $2500 USD. I know that its not hard cash, but it is worth twice as much as the PP prize. Well done for getting a quick GW-bash in there!

I think the idea of excluding people from painting contests because of their talent is ludicrous - how would you ever get the best person winning? It\'d be a bit like banning gold-winning athletes from the next olympics!

The German GDs used to have a rule where the slayer sword winner of the previous year could only enter the open category... is that the sort of rule that has affected you Natalya?

Ah, the UK Golden Demon Slayer Sword. That\'s where it\'s at. Straight from Raven fantasy armoury (used to be at least, think they still are).

I want one :(

No. I cant enter any category in any year.

I cant see it happening at GDUK - the competition is just too hard! They\'d need to ban Joe Hill, Matt Parkes, Steve B, any Spaniards and of course the French!

So you are safe here ;)

Just come over, say hello, and practice your English next time! We wont bite! (unless you ask nicely!) lol

I can see it now; next they\'ll be banning painters for \"doping\" Urinalysis before checking in please. He was on Cappacino when he painted that!

Alexi; sorry about your problem with the RussiaGD. That seems so terrible:(

I seem to remember back in the day Games Day had a regulation where a past Slayer Sword winner could only enter the open competition and couldn\'t win the sword again.

I actually applaud this idea. Really, we see people winning several Slayer Swords or axes or whatever these days. How many Gold Daemons to you need to feel adequate? We know you are good. Let it go. Sometimes it reaches a point where it becomes excessive.

I don\'t agree with banning people, nor denying people entry because they are good. That isn\'t cool. Sometimes I find it ridiculous people travel across the country winning two, three, or four Daemons each time. This really is unfair to others. There is a point when people need to give it up.

Before you bitch me out, hear this...
I don\'t really care about winning awards. I don\'t care about ratings. I have never entered a painting comp and I probably never will. I\'m quite happy with my level of painting. Go ahead, bash me, belittle me, snipe my minis, call me an asshole if you don\'t like my opinion. It\'s all good. I have nothing to prove.

not that I give a toss as I will never enter a GT, but I like the idea of a temporary ban. Win as many trophies, swords, axes, small children as you like, but then you can\'t enter the next year.
I think it keeps things interesting - ooh, wonder what x is doing while we all struggle to complete on time....

The GD\'s are a competition and surely all people should be allowed to enter regardless of their skill. I cannot see a problem if the same people win year after year. Its up to the complainers to shut up and be better.

This same problem seems to be prevalent in modern society, its a world where there cannot be winners or losers, everybody has to be equal. Bah bloody rubbish.

So all the whingers have three options.
1 get better
2 just be happy and compete
3 get out and moan how unfair it all is and how life owes you etc etc etc

Happy painting all.

I don\'t think it is UNFAIR to others, as you say, but I do think your idea has merit. Its a good idea in the spirit of competition.

And you\'re an asshole.

(not really, but you left that out there, how was I to resist?)

Another point is that after some of these painters make their country wide trek, winning all the demons there are to win, I would think they probably get burned out and don\'t do it again the next....Kind of a build in determent.

As a reply to Alexi\'s complaints about Russian GD... they probably decided that former winners entering the comp would dissuade a lot of others from even entering. Not having to compete with the previous year\'s uber-painter (who has their laurels already) would be a big encouragement to any up-and-comers out there who think they have a chance.

It\'s not being banned for \"being too good\". It\'s being asked not to enter so that someone else has a chance to win this time. Think of it as the winners\' \"gift\" to subsequent year\'s painters. And if you don\'t like it... there are other comps to enter. Just try not to get DQ\'ed for some other reason.

I say to hell with it. Painters should be allowed to enter every year and thats that. This year will be my first GD and i would be over the moon with a little certificate. I can\'t imagine what kind of folk would complain about who is too good at this and that. They should be happy with having the chance to see real works of miniature art IRL and learn from them. I find it all a little silly really.

My 2 pennys.
