Games Day Atlanta 2006 coverage

This is so bad for whoever really deserved that trophy. As I recall from the last time this happened, there\'s no way to award them the statue after the fact (or perhaps it was GW policy not to do so, I can\'t remember).

I may just have to come back up to Atlanta this weekend and see if Mr. Pissed Off would like to meet Mr. *Really* Pissed Off.

Mr. Savage

First off, I wanted to say it was a pleasure talking with you Angela. I appreciate your feedback on my mounted Kroot and am glad you liked them. I didnt realize you were from so far out of town so I want to welcome you back anytime!! Your stuff was incredible!!
As for Mr. Savage. I do know who he is. I have actually gamed with him in the past and he hangs out at the GW store in mall of Georgia often. He is big in historical gaming and part of a big convention in atlanta once a year for historical gaming. I was supprised when he showed me his entry into the GD as I have seen alot of his armies and they have never really impressed me. Alas I figured maybe he had made massive improvements to his skills. Guess not. As usual Dirty it was good to see you again and myself and \"the token Blonde\" look forward to your next visit....

That sound about right?

Yea, and if I remember right, he had a very \"weathered\" face. It sounds like Da Fish knows exactly who he is, as he did mention something about historical gaming If he goes into the GW store in GA a lot, maybe they should throw him out and ban him for life!

April fools tourny

Yeah I know him. If rodnik is who I think he is, he knows him too. Andy has been around this area for a while now. I am actualy one of the ones hosting this event this weekend (our WARFAN april fools tourney). I will talk to the judges about having him banned from the event. Originally I held out on a verdict but there is just way to much evidence to think otherwise. So much for thinking good of your fellow man.

hmm, well I\'m not near ATL, but I\'ll donate for torches and pitchforks :D

definately poor class. Can\'t really fault GW for it at the event, as I don\'t know how they could have known, however, it could definately hurt US GD\'s if it\'s not properly corrected somehow. Pretty tough to take the trophy away, without legal action, which just isn\'t worth it, but bannings, etc...and awarding another trophy seems definately in order. Anyway, let him keep it, so that every time he sees it he\'s reminded he\'s a cheeter.

YEAH, BURN THE WITCH! Errr, sorry, got carried away there. But it is very good to see that he\'s apparently not going to get away with this. Thanks Andrew for doing some good detective work. Even if GW can\'t change the result (or possibly they can) they can now at the very least give credit to the actual artist.

On the subject of the sword winner and the photographs, one of the main things I feel photographs don\'t always convey is the smoothness of the paint job. IMO that was the difference between Jeff\'s alter kindred and Angela\'s Slaanesh champ. in that category. Although her banner was flawless I thought there seemed to be some rougher patches on the mini (rougher as in painted by a mortal as opposed to a painting goddess, we\'re still talking about two fabulous minis here, so please don\'t take any offense Angela). Plus, Jeff\'s \"thing\" is really an overwhelming level of fine detail, which does lose a lot of it\'s effectiveness when it\'s blown up so large. But, having said that, every one of his Wardancers was painted almost as well, and there were ten of them. Them or Angela\'s space marine would have been my two best bets for the sword.

p.s. It was great to meet so many of you there. I had a great time. Hopefully I\'ll get some pics of my entries up in a couple of days when I\'ve caught up on my sleep.

Actually, the man made it pretty easy to find him...

Hi all.

I wanted to reply earlier, but I managed to spill a half litre of lemon iced tea over my keyboard yesterday....

First off: Thanks to the many, MANY people who gave me congrats and kudos. And a hearty congratulations to the other competitors and winners as well.

It is good see the cheating scandal exposed to its entirety within a couple of days after the competition. It shows active awareness and self-policing in our community. Cheaters will be cheaters and this one got nailed very quickly. :]

khavor:
I am not offended at all. I am more aware of any weak spots on my stuff than anyone else. All I see on my figures when I look at them are the mistakes, more mistakes and real bad mistakes.
I *know * they are not perfect. :)

As for this:

Gosh I don\'t know what to say.:(... Jeff\'s wardancers were way better than this IMHO, and I thought they\'d probably take the prize. Though admittedley it was very difficult to see anything through the scratchy plexiglass-of-doom.
I can only hope (for my own sanity) that the sword winner doesn\'t actually look like this...

Now I\'m terrified about what my entries\' photos are going to look like. ???

:(

Thank God it wasn\'t just me then! I know some folk have mentioned picture quality, but I\'m not convinced that the picture is at fault. I want to see hos Wardancers now. Anyone helping here? Anyone?

Well that picture I seriously hope does not accurately represent the level of painting on the figure. There is NO way it can. I would like to see his personal pictures if he has some...

There\'s a link to a picture at the bottom for Jeff\'s sword winner...if that\'s the one you guy\'s are lookin\' for.

You all do realize, right, that we\'re taking a photo of a 1.5 inch model and blowing it up so it\'s larger than the model of the new plastic Giant, right...? Of COURSE it\'s gonna look different. See how thin his brush strokes in the swirls and woodgrain and all that fun stuff are in the photograph? Now imagine them at about 1/4 that width. THAT\'S how the model looks in real life. We just blow up the photo so you CAN see all the detail. REMEMBER: every man-sized model is really only 28mm or an inch and a half high when it\'s in your hand...

Er, yeah. Don\'t forget, almost all of us take pictures of our own minis, and you are absolutely correct. We take a tiny one inch mini and blow it up to 6 inches on your screen. My 2 Megapixel Canon A60 Powershot camera is not very good but it does not make my minis look like that!

Sorry... I should just shut up.
