£25 to contest. You enter your minis and either get nowt or some dodgy \'Oscar\' replica, maybe a cheap sword if yer good enough/lucky.

As a judge at Euro Militaire I can tell you that the first thing many judges do, because they have the opportunity, is to lift the figure and turn over the entry card to see who did something.Originally posted by SaxonAngel
No you\'re right.. It is supposed to be anonymous.
A card is filled out with the title, category, etc of the entry and it\'s submitter. The named side is turned downwards onto the table so it supposedly can\'t be seen and the mini is placed on top.

I thought the entries were anonymous until after they were judged...
Or am I being too niave?
well the Head judge at GD baltimore this year was Dave Taylor, Head of US Studio.........Originally posted by pitynoman

The judges are a bunch of random plonks who just happen to work for GW,some in retail, phone sales, whatever. Some of the judges have NO painting talent whatsoever. The ones in LA heavily favored the locals that hang at their store.
I\'ve even heard the following.:\"Dude, you are going to get second,don\'t worry about it\"
This was BEFORE any judging took place,I mean BEFORE THE FIRST CUT.
I am not saying they are all like that, but I\'ve seen alot of abuse,I\'ve been to two and won a bronze. The one before last, (LA) the Warhammer single silver went to a MEDIOCRE fig that had NO business even being there. I thought it was a joke.

Canada lost their GD for this year.:~( We\'re looking at next spring.
What is the \"Open System\"?
now thats sensible - judges should be competent modellers themselves at the very least - at Expo all judges were either silver or gold medal winners with many \"Grand Masters\" included. For the french GD (OK, not for last year), the entries are anonymous (just an ID number). All the judges are at least what would be considered level 7 or 8 painters on CMON, and often a precedent Slayer Sword winner is included in the jury.
Its all fixed! went to LA\'s gamesday 2 years ago, ..... I think that the judging is fixed! some of the models that had gotten first place, were very undeserving, and others who only made first cut should have won. But thats only my opinion.
