Okkk. This was my first demon so my impression of the whole process is rather mixed but the link first, impression later. Apologies first as well - the file is very disorganized. I tried to group minies in folders but it turned out that flickr allows to have only 3.
Now... i went with the rest of NYC crowd and normally it is ~4hours trip assuming no traffic.
The standing joke among people in NYC is the possibility of bus breakdown on the way... well WHAT DO YOU KNOW... IT HAPPENED :cussing:
about 20 minutes into New Jersey one of our buses started to spew smoke and in general looked like successfully intercepted space hulk on his last dive. Anyway we got out and played some small game of 40k while they were getting us second bus. Considering it happened second year in a row these \"side of the road\" 40k games are becoming a tradition (reflected in pictures with a shoe as an impassable terrain defended by brave guardians)
Demon itself. Personally I think that the number of people was not very large (for the painting competition, that is) and judging was very fast. Light was subpar and what was worse very uneven prom place to place. My bias toward 40k minies as you can see from my pictures is mostly because fantasy and LOTR were in corner section were the light was worse. Second problem - display cases were incredibly scratchy. that really screw up autofocusing. Judging itself was good (or at least without surprises) with the exception of 2 categories - but I am biased here.
Personally, well NYC crowd believe that i did pretty good for the first demon. I was submitting mine in 4 categories - 40K single, 40K squad, 40K large/vehicle and open.
All made first cut and all 40k categories got a \"honorable mention\" - whatever this is.
PS is somebody wants these images - yell, I have them uncropped and much bigger sizes as well
