Baltimore was my first Gamesday. I had a lot of fun. I entered every Golden Demon category (except Youngbloods) and made the first cut in 6. The judges liked my stuff, I guess. They did photograph most of them. The winners were great pieces.
There were a few strange picks, IMHO, but overall, pretty good. I thought the 40k single and 40k large model categories either had some strange picks or the order was a little out of whack. LOTR had the weakest entries, overall (not saying they were bad, just the weakest in turnout and quality compared to Fantasy Large entries and 40k stuff). But I think thats the way things are with LOTR at the moment.
Hearing the judges say things like their picks were based on \"the spirit of the games\" makes one scratch their head when it\'s a painting competition, not a games competition. They give an award for the best painted tournament army, right?
All in all, I had a great time. Spoke with some of the other painters, winners and loser alike, and have to say they were very nice people. The staff was also very nice and took great care with the models. It will be a shame to hear all the trash talk from folks who weren\'t there when the results are posted or the pics aren\'t to their liking.
No trophies for me this time, but it was my first attempt and I had fun and learned some stuff. My 1st GD comp won\'t be my last. Hopefully I\'ll get a few of my runner up models posted on GW site or in WD. I was inspired to come back and try harder.
