after five hours driving I am not quite sane, but if memory serves me right (I am sure it doesn\'t)

Dylan got the sword for the Fantasy regiment, he also won (don\'t remember colors) Fantasy monster (I think silver), 40k large (bronze?), Fantasy single (Silver?) and LOTR (that being gold)

Bennett took open silver.

Jessica Rich took fantasy single (bronze) and 40k large (silver).

Aaron Lovejoy got I believe 3 demons (Fantasy, single, 40k large and bronze in LOTR) and FW best of show for his gorgeous avatar (also gold in 40K large)

I took 40k vehicle for that old green wave serpent that now had base and apparently conformed:).

BTW, I just realize that this is a WIP photo with all gems still unpainted
My personal thanks for this to Aaron who, about 2 days before the event convinced me to enter this model.

David Taylor, I believe took 3 demons, one being 40k vehicle, and, I think 40k squad.

Andrew Cromwell took gold for Fantasy monster

Youngblood was taken by our own Carmelo
who, in my opinion, was far ahead of the rest of the pack.

Another New Yorker, Ensel Elgort ,who got youngblood bronze last year, took Gold in Large category with his FW spacewolf bust.
He also got HM for his LOTR miniature

Couple of generals things. 1) A lot of entries, many very high quality entries. Competition was very serious
2) Light was as bad as usually
3) Judging was shall I say interesting.... with a very strong bias toward dark brooding miniatures. In my very personal opinion this time specific taste and preferences of these judges weighted in a lot, possibly more then on average.
4) Organization of judging was somewhat chaotic with sudden category shifts after preliminary placements and things like this. If people affected want to elaborate I leave it up to them.
5) Very few HMs, some categories I don\'t think had any (fantasy single for example)

Finally, my personal favorites didn\'t get anything at all.

Those will be:
a) Jessica\'s fully sculpted orkish girl (HM in open). Very funny piece
b) Bretonian regiment in Fantasy regiment. I don\'t understand what was the deal with this entry. It looked very good from my perspective, but again judges were very much incline to award very dark miniatures. These bretonians very apparently too bright for their taste.
c) Striking scorpion Wraith lord and some rather interesting looking scaven. I suspect I know who is the authors of both of these models since they had very distinct style but I am not sure, so don\'t want to miss-attribute them. Both very either fully sculpted or very extensively converted and both, I am afraid, were too bright.

I have nothing to compare with but I think Demon Lounge was pretty successful. Lots of hanging out and all participants were showing his past miniature. I found several rather surprising things. For example Todd\'s miniatures are not nearly as bright as on WD photographs.

Ok on this note I think I will crawl and try to sleep

The 40K Striking Scorpion Wraithlord was by Joe Orteza... A VERY good piece, in my humble opinion. I love his work, so I\'m probably a bit biased. This is why they never have me judge...

I must say that Andrew Cromwell\'s gold winner for Open was AMAZING, and I\'ll apologize now for not having the time to shoot the heck out of it. It was stunning!

What surprised me most was Meg\'s Orion and her Space Marine not placing. They were DEFINITELY worth it, but somehow slipped under their radar. I never spoke to the judges, so I don\'t know why they didn\'t place either model. But they were GREAT, and most certainly deserved a Demon apiece.

Jess, of course, did well, as was expected. I\'m very proud, not only because I was incredibly fortunate to have lunch with her (and MUCH cuddling! :D ). Definitely look forward to some good karaoke duets from us..! ;)

It\'s been a LOOOOOOOOONG day, and I\'ve had many a tasty adult beverage, so please excuse me for not elaborating. I might have a pair of brain cells left right now, and at least one of them is telling me it\'s time for bed...

Congrats to ALL the entrants!! I didn\'t see a single CMON model that didn\'t deserve a Demon!! But, Skeeve, you never came by Golden Demon to say hi!!! *evil glare*

It was GREAT to see so many of you, and I thank you deeply, because for me, it really makes working the GD area worth it for me.

Fantasy single did have at least one HM- me. :( Hate to get that close and miss out. I got bronze in 40k single and silver in LoTR single so I can\'t complain. I pretty much agree with Skeeve on the other stuff, the lounge was great for both the paricipants and the passer-bys. The competition was most definitely higher this year than the last couple of years, which is a very good thing. And I agree the judging was interesting in some categories and placements, there were a few headscratchers. It\'s a tough job though with so many nice minis to choose from.

And getting to see Aaron and Todds minis in person was worth the trip, great stuff.

I took LOTS of pics! :D Unfortunately they are all GW property, so I don\'t have any to share. They\'ll do post-production on them this week and then hopefully have coverage up in a few days.

Richard Hale, from Stuff of Legends, was also shooting photos alongside of me. Gracious as always, we had a good time photographing all the models. He might have some pics up on www.solegends.com sooner.

Somewhere in the middle of the first cut my camera died so I took few first cut picture but none specifically for winner. Some winning miniatures will be there. Again, a major disclaimer - I tried to take picture without flash but it didn\'t work with this light, so be warned, colors are probably off in some unpredictable directions.

1) rather unfocused image that gives general impression of the number of entries
This is 40k single first cut. Those are not all entries either since they took some out to figure out placements

Sorry, yes the gold model (the ogre) was not in the case at this time, either was not moved yet or was out with judges. When they move it back my camera was gone :(

That Space hulk was so amazing i decided a picture couldn\'t capture it so i did a walk around with my camera on video mode. Its about 75 MB to download but its worth it if you didn\'t get to see it in person.

Yes, it was indeed a cake! And VERY tasty, as it turns out. It was made for the Mythic folks for Warhammer Online, and they shared it with the staff while we were breaking down. :)

Duff and a few other folks from the Food Network toured through the Golden Demon area to look at more miniatures and see all the amazing paintjobs we had there. They were COMPLETELY blown away! Then they were awarded an Honorary Golden Demon for Best Fantasy Large Monster... :D

Duff is a VERY nice guy, and lots of fun! I talked with him briefly about entering the cake in the Open Category, but the judges chuckled and jokingly said that it had already won a Demon so couldn\'t be entered ... lol Next year, Duff says, he wants to make a Tyranid cake. He thought those guys were the MOST AWESOME monsters ever! Maybe we can have a conversion contest to model up a Tyranid for Duff to make into a cake... *hmmm* ;) And one of the videographers from the Food Network asked me to point out a bunch of cool models for him to get close-up footage on. I don\'t remember which ones I pulled out, specifically, nor which ones they will use in their episode, either. But make sure you keep an eye out for Ace of Cakes on the Food Network and see when this episode will air!

I don\'t think they filmed me talking to Duff. God, I hope not... I\'m such a dork...

Games Day this year was a blast. Feels awesome to have won a demon of my own, too!

It was actually the diorama of the orc fighting the space marine that was mine. That troll was fantastic, tho.

So many entries this year. Was impressive to see that many well painted models all together. The \'Eavy Medal stuff was the most amazing thing ever!
