Yeah, gathering at the daemon area was pretty much what was agreed to in GD UK 2006 thread. Last year went pretty well that way.
Though not an active part of the get together mini dealy (too slow
) I decided to paint one up anyway. But then I realised how High Elf spearmen have both chainmail (yes its technically scalemail but do I care?lol) leg armour and breastplates, just like Vostroyans. So behold! The first stage of my all plastic Vostroyans!
I\'ll add the hats and a few more Imperial thingies with greenstuff later.

Have a cold one for me...well after your done painting at least. Although come to think of it, we do a lot of drinking and painting over here in the states. In fact we will be drinking and painting tonight!

Just wanted to chime in and say the work posted in here is fantastic, Orb\'s being the standout piece of the bunch for me. It\'s all gravy, but flesh paintjob just about floored me. What kind of work goes into that? Is it a matter of applying a base colour, then painting layers of lighter shades until you get the desired result?

After spemding what seems like litteraly hours (it was infact) working on this he is now well into double figures time wise and still has a lot more to go.
I am hoping to do a bit more work on him today but as I have to travel back to Portsmouth tonight I have a lot of things to do tonight and I think with him being at this stage now he is not safe to travel which is not too much of a problem as it will give me a chance to work on my GD entries and also a base for this guy in the few days I am away
There is a lot of work to do still in way of the Hat, purity seal paper and cloak to name but a few are still very much in progress and have a few more layers to go before they are finished and the cloak is still in base coat stage.
I wanted the steel of his medals and the skulls along with the power glove and mechanical leg to have a shiney steel look so I went for a light steel look rather than a bluish steel but I am not sure they have come out how I wanted them to so I might put a very watery light blue wash on them unless anybody has any other suggestions.
A bit of feed back on this guy at this stage would be really helpful. Thanks, here are a few pics

Thanks for all the comments regarding the SB chappy;
Humble; The Standard Bearer is probably the standout figure of the vostroyan range, and you could argue it paints itself! With the flesh, I painted a mid range base colour, then yes, used thin layers to build up the highlights (pure white, very thin in some places) but also shading, carefully with a dark colour - a red/black colour works well. I also used some red, thinned until it was dirty water (!) and used it in selective area to add a bit of variety and life to it. It\'s barely visible, but it\'s there.
Martyn; wish I could remember the colours for his trousers; blue + black (VMC\'s) with sunnyskintone (VMC) added to the mix to highlight. I\'m adding that colour all the time for hightlights of late.
As for you officer, I feel the red could be highlighted a little more in some select areas - again adding a flesh tone might be worth a try.
A blue wash yes, good idea, but keep it in the shadows and away from the highlights. I did this on my SB, but on the gun hanging from his waist I used field grey (a greenish colour) rather than blue (Arkaal\'s mixes from his website)
Push the shadows of the gold NMM more to make them POP! and some pure white selected highlights too.
Oh, and I reckon a bit of rust on his bionic leg........it is afterall always in contact with the elements!!!
Will get final pics of my SB very soon, and post him in the gallery here! Feel I could do more to him, but have to stop sometime!!!

I seem to be having trouble with the shadows on the gold NMM, Mike and Chris suggested using a dark purple wash but I find it making no difference even after applying several coats into the shadow areas.
