Gary Oldman was at GDLA. I saw him in the Golden Demon area looking at the LOTR figures when I was taking pictures of the demon winners.

Gary Oldman?? I\'m a big fan, that\'s totally awesome!

I went to GD LA and tried to talk to some of the painters whose work I like and no one seemed very chatty. I guess Golden Demon judging is a bit too stressful or something.

Allan C was fun to talk to though. I was star struck when I saw him showing off his minis. Seeing his minis in person is insane! I bought the Orc from Metal Modeles the second I came home from the competition.

My favorite mini in the competition this year was the fantasy orc that won first place in the single mini category. The NMM was done very well.

The painting lounge in general made the trip to Gamesday worth it. Even though I won second place in WFB Monster category, which was nice, being able to see the minis and talk to some of the painters I like was worth the $40 price tag :)

It is also fun listening to the different ways people try to pronounce my last name. Apparently people think there is a V in my name. First name: Damian. Last name: D\'Auria. It sounds like the following: Dee-or-ee-uh. People always murder its pronunciation.

I was surprised to see Gary Oldman as well. At first I thought it was the guy who played Bricktop in the movie Snatch (it was the large glasses). Then a friend told me he played Gordan in Dark Knight. I did not realize he played Zorg in 5th Element though. I overheard the golden demon judges explaining to him why each mini that placed received its placing.

That\'s cause I was a time hog and kept talking to all of the Demon Lounge guru\'s myself. :D

Actually, it was kinda crazy to get anyones attention there was so much going on. I only got to speak with Todd a few times and not at all with Thierry. I was fortunate enough to speak at length with Aron, Lily and Allan quite a bit and a little with Adam and Brice.

On another note, I had been told Robin Williams was a space orc freak. It makes sense...

WOW!!! That was the best Games Day I have ever been to!!

It was awesome to meet. Aaron L, Allen C, Brice, Andrew L, Paul, Lili & her husband, Adam, & Matt. It was also great to see Trevor and Andrew C again. Everyone was so nice and made for an awesome trip!

Aaron L gets the most improved award IMHO. His new stuff was incredible!!

The competition was ridiculous! After the GD deadline I walked around and looked at the entries and got that sick to my stomach feeling. There were so many high quality minis and as Aaron L said there were many at the Slayer Sword level. I would not have thought twice if none of my minis placed.

For example when I saw Lili\'s High elf in Fantasy I thought Gold in the category and a contender for the sword. I am glad I was not a judge.

Ya fantasy single category had some of the most amazing minis in it. I would not have wanted to judge that category if I were a GW employee.

I feel like such an idiot!! I was walking around the Golden Demon area and one of the GW UK judges (after all judging was done) asked me to come into the Golden Demon area. I was introduced to Gary and it didn\'t ring a bell at all. He asked me a lot of questions about Festus and Aragorn. I chatted with him for about 20 minutes about my minis. I loved him in Dracula. I am such an idiot :(

hmm

SOmeone here, who worked for GW in new york i think, also met Will Smith. Will Smith and his son are a big fan of 40K and they collect models ...also there have been 40k posters (apparently) in several will smith films (in home scenes, etc).

I read Robin Williams likes Orks and Skaven.

Damnit. Gary Oldman rocks...i wanted to come for the weekend for GD LA but can;t afford to take a trip for a weekend like that right now :(

damnit :(

Hey Damian...you dissapeared before I could talk to you more about your Ogre that got second. One minute you were there, the next minute I couldn\'t find you anymore. Oh well, next year right!!:D

Shoots! Ya I will see everyone at next GD then. Never bring the GF to Gamesday... and hopefully next year my painting will have improved a bit more so I will have more flashy minis to compete with.

@Ollie: Keep in touch so that I know the next time you will be having painters like Jeremie and Allan teach painting and sculpting classes. I saw your blue sculpt and it looked awesome after just one class.

what an action packed day at the demons!!!
it was good to catch up with everyone, and get to share our works...demon lounge was fun, and seein\' everyone\'s work in person was worth the trip down from alaska...

next year i\'ll have to show up with some paintjobs that are less than 5 years old...
i was suprised to make first cut with such old work...

chattin\' with gary oldman was cool...

hangin\' with allan c. was a highlight of the day...gettin\' to see his alkemy minis in person was awesome...though holdin\' a little wooden board with the whole line of minis blu-tac\'d to it was stressful!!! to think what a nightmare it would have been if i had dropped it...beautiful stuff...

look forward to seein\' who shows up next year...

cheers

I\'ve been trying to replay the whole event in my mind all morning to see if I saw Gary Oldman. I think it must have been him when someone pulled Jes Goodwin away from the tables where the new product previews were. The guy looked vaguely familiar and had a couple of kids with him, I thought it might have been another UK guest of VIP. Was probably Oldman.

Gary - if you read the forums on CMON, drop me an email. Your acting work is awesome. I\'ll take mini-painting commisions from you...I don\'t normally, but I\'ll make exceptions for celebs.

Will and Robin and that guy from Clerks - same goes for you, I\'ll accept commisions. Daddy needs a new pair of shoes.
