You\'d think that so-called \'pros\' would be able to take pics with a halfway decent depth of field....

Well, let\'s not push it. They\'ve taken the first step in posting all the winners of daemons on the website. Next is to get clearer pics on them (I agree Talonicus, you\'re pics are better), and then to have different views. One small step for minis, one giant leap for GW UK.

I had a chat with one of those that was responsible for the photos. And told him quite frankly that they were doing it wrong (I had a long look at the setup and saw the unedited pictures). He was a great guy though... and not the actual photographer So my attemt at being an *sshole kind of lost its pace (It was at the very beginning so I wasn\'t disturbing him either).
The explanation from him was that they didn\'t have time to take the studio equipment with them so they used another setup. However I will mail them to next time with tips. It wouldn\'t have taken much time to make the setup suitable for miniature photography, that\'s for sure. Not sure they\'ll listen but anyway.

At least they\'ve done it this year some of them are terrible though....but pat on the back for the guys for trying.. maybe they should communicate with their worldwide bretherent who seem to do a great job of it.......and avelorn ..try it just when you write mention that there is a large community of modellers and painters out there that love to see that kind of thing....be prepared though cos if the photos are perfect who will buy the supplement white dwarf???

The GD booklet is for free and contains the same pictures except for those showing up at the tour... which many can\'t afford/ have time. The thumb nails for second and third in Wh40k monster are mixed up.

To be fair though some photos are good, just the depth of field that needs altering. I think those that were shot in one of the lightboxes had the big advantage that they actually had one light in front of the lightbox a little to the right. I could see they had moved it there probably after some testing? Not perfect but better off then the second one that had the same light from the BACK.
The cameras were better than last year as they used the really nice digital Hasselblads. Unfortunately on anything but relatively short exposure times they were shaking due to the vibrations through the floor of the NEC. This would explain the depth of field issues most likely.
The fact that they are all online and some of the images they have used on the site aren\'t of the sort of quality to put in a booklet suggests to me that there may not be a GD pamphlet with WD this year though.

Nikon with a ring flash? That was most likely Richard for stuff of legends...
They used good cameras and a tripod that\'s for sure. They just needed to tweak the setup. Hm. Vibrating floors... that could be an issue of course but with the amount of light they used it shouldn\'t have been a problem with the single miniatures at least (no problem with a bit of aftersharpening in these MP sizes). I also feel slightly that the camera isn\'t quite getting the focus on some minis, which is also due to the setup (even if it\'s possible with some more time at your hands which you can see on some pictures). If the vibrations were from the stupid music... that\'s a two for one!! Remove the music and get good photos!
