Golgotha by Victor Hardy

First: I am a Christian.

Second: I think this is a fine piece of art.

Since Golgotha means \"Hill of Skulls\" It seems a fitting name for this type of fig(Word Bearers). If as a Christian one believes biblical theology then no demon would appear this way until the \"final conflict\" Not many people would be tempted by something the scares the hell out of them (pardon the pun). As one apologist noted, Satan\'s greatest tool is to convince people he doesn\'t exist. Having said that this is great painting work and doesn\'t offend me in the least.

Vince said all that needs to be said about the DaVinci Code, so I will leave that alone.

I am a pretty good Catholic.
I think this is an awesome piece. If it offends you, then go away or just don\'t look at it, if it offends a company/group, well then I have one thing to say to you. Go live under a rock if your so offended. :innocent:

Amazing...

This is an beautiful and character-full mini, and among the top of those I\'ve witnessed.

I believe those that mock your assessment of trying to emulate Renaissance and Old Masters style are forgetting the scale you\'re dealing with.

It\'s a piece that can be examined and re-examined to find new things.

\"Too busy\" as a criticism? You\'re looking at an display piece, meant to show off painting talent in an eye catching way. If this was part of a table top army, maybe I\'ll give you \"too busy\", but as a gallery piece, it exemplifies the amount of work you put into it.

As another apologist MIGHT have stated, it\'s mankind biggest tool to convince himself that evil is someone else\'s fault, and an even greater tool to make up great little quotes like the one your apologist gave us lol

Sorry. I\'m in cynical mood today. We\'re all in this together, remember that!

I have to say that by the criteria that we are judging, a 10 being Golden Demon worthy, this miniature is definetely a 10. I know it didn\'t win a Golden Demon, but there is little doubt in my mind that if it had initially been entered with Games Workshop iconography on it, it would have won the Slayer Sword.

I am a Christian and am not offended in the least by this miniature, simply because if I were, I would have to be offended at every artist\'s attempt to paint or draw what hell looks like. I don\'t think the your going to find alot of demons running around carrying \"Jesus Rules!\" signs.

That being said, I kind of feel sorry for Victor in the sense that I think that somewhere along the way lost track of why he was painting the miniature to begin with. If your going to try for a Golden Demon, and spend a monstrous amount of time working on your entry, the last thing you want to do is give them an excuse to disqualify you. If you wanted a Golden Demon, put away any agenda and do things their way(Before you start raking me over the coals, I\'m not saying that I agree with this, I\'m just saying thats the way it is. If you think you can slip anything past those judges that isn\'t strictly GW, then go back and look at the last 5-10 years worth of winnners.)

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go work on my Games Day 2007 entry: Orc Warlord with Axe of Hewing and Gun\'s & Roses T-Shirt of Defense.

Out of the Closet !

lol It doesnt take much to get all the world -wide Christians propelliing themselves out of their closets !!!. Da Vinci & Holman Hunt {Light of the world } used female models for the people in their paintings, who they wanted too look holy . As each decade passes the dates for the 4 gospels get lower, 2 at least(John & Matthew) before A.D. 70 & the fall of Jerusalem. The Knights Templar were exterminated for the oldest reason ever ,.GREED.The king of France wanted all their wealth & land , the Pope at that time gvve him the loop hole & exscuse to do that .Chaos beasties by their name should look , well kinda CHAOTIC ! and finaly, last but not least , my ultimate point .......I think we all need to get out a bit more !!!!!!!!! lol

Lets not forget this artist poured 600 hrs ? off his life into a mini and its been publically pulled to pieces, lets just STOP for a second & ask ourselves how we would feel if we were in his shoes.I am in awe of his patience & his perserverance lets now give the man a break !Well done Victor on your award . GOD bless ..........VINCENTI :(

You\'re a good man vincenti!! Well said!

If I have to read another \"Why Vallejo paint is so good\" thread I think I\'ll never bother visiting this site again!! I don\'t know why I waste my time reading this shite?? I can see why Victor has only two or three posts to his name. (Lucky man). And talented!! Since when did this site become blasphemis or not?

Cool Mini or Not?? Fucking c00l dood. Paint on Victor!! Your dedication and skill with the brush is an inspiration!!

Aye Laurence, Vallejo is only as good as the monkey wielding the branch. That bloke Spacemunkie took all my Coat d\'arms off me, and his painting ain\'t suffered for it. It\'s all in the wrist really. Good point. Aye.

This threads gone a little nut\'s just wanted to add my two penny\'s..

The question of imagery Blasphemy and wether or not this fit\'s into GW imagery completely overlook what this is.. 600 plus hours of a True Artists Life...

I was helping out judging at the UK emon where this was pulled and I was more gutted than Victor appeared to be..A real Gentleman with an awesome Talent that has been publicly developed throughout the years..I for one cannot wait to read the next installment of this guys miniature painting story..If You haven\'t read them before look them up ..I have them in Citadel journals an the like but anyone with a weblink post it here..

As for the moel itself It really is an impressive piece of work..True some of the Freehan can be OTT an True some people don\'t particularly like it..
For Me it is an amazing Technical Demonstration of the miniature painting Art..It may not be in the GW style but it is in the style of a painter who has eveloped himself ,,,sought advice from fellow artists,,,appreciated his own shortcomings and worked on something that has become a masterful display of HIS OWN STYLE.. Something that is a rare treat in itself...

I say amazing Victor and congrats for producing something that will be recognised throughout the miniature painting world and make your Name become even more well known than it is..

And anyone not that sure well done for keeping to your opinions where woul we be without it..

And let\'s all remember just what the basic kit that started this miniature looks like when it comes out of the box from GW....

Thank you for reading one of my longest spiels to date...

Artistically, it\'s just not that great a piece...someone mentioned eariler that \'art has no rules\'...I\'ll wager that person doesn\'t know a whole lot about art. Art has rules, theories, and principles heavily tied into mathmatics, color, proportion and anatomy. A great piece of art encompasses all this and more...and a great artist applies these principles in their work.

Uh, well I\'ve read plenty of art books but maybe I\'m just stupid eh?

What I said was that art has no hard and fast laws. There are plenty of rules of thumb that artists should be aware of, but they can sometimes be broken with very nice results. That is what I meant by saying there are no laws in art.

Well, I\'m confused.

The gallery is now full of active images going up to 22nd May.

This piece was submitted on 16th May and is still not active, Victor\'s gallery is empty.......but the mini is still there.

is there a delay in approving this? I\'ve been curious to see how this will feature in the grand scheme of things......?

bizarre

Yeah, I\'m not sure what is up with this either....DragonForge Design sent me a PM asking about it too, but unfortuanately I only moderate the comments left for an image, not the image itself. Something for borg to check out thats for sure.
