good news for a change

Yes, and people who hit small children with baseball bats don\'t get treated well in jail. Have you seen the protestors? they are the pastor\'s grandkids for the most part.

Nope I have not seen the protestors. Alright then I will just scare them with the baseball bat. I would really not hit the kids or the adults anyways.

The right is for peaceful protest. If they\'re making asses of themselves, you can still have them arrested for harassment, disrupting the peace, and an assortment of other regulations regarding disruptive and endangering behaviour.

A bad joke

I don\'t think the story said it, but these guys are Fred Phelps\' bunch.
I\'ve had dealings with these yahoos (and that is an insult to yahoos) and the one thing most people don\'t know is that the Westview Baptist Church is, imo, a cult. Fred is the patriarch of most of the members. You can\'t just show up and go to services, non-members (and by that it usually means family) aren\'t allowed in. They hide their activites and evade any official record keeping.
Why the Baptist organization hasn\'t long ago withdrawn any sanction for these asshats I have no idea.

The answer is simple.
The Baptist organization never gave them any sanction.

They are in no way affiliated or acknowledged by any other church using the name Baptist as far as I know, and are definitely not a member of any of the national Baptist Counsels.

Of course, they\'re not that different from many of the official Baptists I grew up around, but that\'s a different rant.

\"(The police) took an oath, and their duty is to keep the peace,\" Phelps-Roper said. \"If they do anything as foolish as (sending a bill), I\'ll laugh all the way to the trash can.\"

Yeah the peace they\'re breaking. And he\'ll see who\'s foolish when they drag his arse to prison.

Forgive me if I\'m wrong.

But I\'ve always thought that Funerals were private affairs, and that funeral parlors were private businesses.
Isn\'t disturbing or breaking up a private function in fact illegal?
Your rights only go until they infringe upon someone elses.
In all honesty though, I believe the Phelps cult should be wiped off the face of the planet.
They are a lot more disturbing than the Branch Davidians of Waco were.

No Dave, I\'ve a far better idea, when they next state that they are going to protest a funeral, Let everyone attending stand and point a finger at them and laugh.
Humiliation is what they need. In a very large dose!

They do not go into the funeral home, but at the graveside services of fallen soldiers.

I think it\'s very good that these people get this kind of notice. They are living proof that it IS wrong to use god to justify hatred.

Thanks to them, some people might think twice the next time they hear about god wanting them to go to war, or approving their wars. They might think that god may not hate all arabs, after all; he might even be serious about the \'thou shalt not kill\' joke...

I\'m not sure I get your meaning.
These people never said god hates war or violence. No, they say god caused the war and the deaths as punishment for Americans being so tollerant of homosexuals (as if America was particularly tolerant).

What I was rather badly trying to say is that these people pretend that god shares their hatred. They do something (very nearly) everybody resents in the name of god\'s (pretended) hate. What I hope is that other people who use god to justify their hatred will have to think twice.
There will always be warmongers who interpret \'fiat lux\' as a god\'s way to tell us to use the atom bomb (since we have no better way to make a lot of light). What I am hoping for is that less and less of people believe them.
