Hi Y\'all!
Yes folk I\'m at it once again. What would painting be without setting up a WIP thread
My next installment, \'Problem child Alyx\' by hasslefree. Glad I finally got around to painting her, It\'s a very nice sculpt and one I\'ve been wanting to paint ever since I first seen her. Only getting started here, but I\'m already enjoying her a lot.
Bagun on the skin area, like usual, still got the highlighting to do, but I feel it\'s up for a great start; think I\'m finally getting a hang of that smoothness thing everyone is yapping about lol
And, might I add.. this girl is freaking small, I think calling this a mini is really an understatement.

Thanks, I wonder what the GS will look like once I paint it.

do you not use primer then?
Clear primer, as per this article
I feared my gooey tole primer would have ruined such a diminutive mini. I like it, smooth and light :D

Didn\'t have much time for painting with the pic taking and the montage today, but I managed to do her face:)
Skin will have some sorting out to do later on (Ie the hands)but so far so good.

Cheers Matt, means a lot to me.

A bit further on this mean girl, did the stockings ( I thought the rips would be a nice addition) and the shirt, there\'s a bit more purple tone in the shading irl, but that didn\'t come through in the pic.
Also did some fixing on the face, on the side you don\'t see lol
Skirt is only basecoated and partly shaded... I have to go watch a movie with my girlfriend now, so it\'ll have to wait.

I love the rips in the stockings. Well done. What color the teddy bear?

Oh, you said you had to watch a movie with the girlfriend... What did you have to see? Or did you mean you had to go watch your girlfriend IN a movie? Booyah.

The purple in the skin tone is excellent. This is easily the best stuff I\'ve seen of yours. I am curious about the base and the colors you will use. Good luck, and as always I\'ll keep checking to throw in some very useless comments!

Haha, no comments are useless; I\'m a lonely painter and it\'s probably the only thing that keep me from going insane :D
I got to watch Step brothers, with Will Ferrel... pretty bad movie actually, but entertaining.
Floor will be beige, an hospital floor actually, and the lump of GS will be a blood-stained sheet. Still pondering on the teddy bear; maybe brown like the original teddy or tealish like the skirt.
Yeah, I\'m quite exited by this so far, I started using stupidly diluted paints, and I guess it works nice.

I \'primed\' it with 2 coats of varnish, it does provide some adherence and doesn\'t obscure any details or get grainy, It\'s good for very small display minis like this one.

I think I\'ll indeed go for brown on the teddy, otherwise it might detract attention from the face.
I looked for some reference pics and found this, just wanted to share...

and under \'blood stained\' I found this

Quite disturbed I am lately lol

Y\'know I personally would like to see the cloth on the ground painted more to resemble a little girls \"Blanky\" then a bloodstained hospital thingy. Kind of like she was disturbed from her nap with her blank and teddy so busted out the \'gat and started cappin\' some thugs in the dome.

Nice storytelling Scott, but I think I\'ll stick to my version, yours just isn\'t disturbed enough lol

Okay some progress made, I might work on the skirt some more later, and I basecoated a couple other parts.

This isn\'t her bast angle, I think I\'ll need to retouch the eye-nose area to make the purple tint more subtle there.

the way you have painted this min, it looks to me as if she is looking down at the ground with her eyelid down while thrusting the gun in the air. and considering the flavor and nature of the mini, i think thats perfect! if you se the mini a different way, dont pay too much attention to this, but if you see it the same way i do, it looks great, just make sure that eye area is mooth enough to give that effect to its fullest. further, I agree that the area could use some finer blanding, but trust me i know what a feat that is considering the size of the mni... all in all i like where its goin!

Cheers Tim:drunk:

EDIT: BTW i like the highlights on the skirt a lot! forgot to mention.

Hmmmm... actually I painted her to be looking through the sight of her gun. This confirms what I\'ve been thinking that her iris is too pale and doesn\'t show enough, and the white needs to be whiter. Guess I\'ll need to retouch that as well.

Edit: glad to hear that, I wasn\'t sure about it.

Here\'s a closeup that shows this

Continued, I did the jacket tonight, did a pretty nice job of it, then thought it would be a good idea to glaze it with a muted tone to bring it all together... this kinda ruined it.
This sucks... guess I\'ll have to give it a glaze of purple and redo some of the highlights :(

Plus theres a nasty imperfection in my assembly which will need to be filed and repainted... more work.

Coming along nicely. SHame about the jacket, though it still looks good to me.

Also, did the primer arive yet? My conicern is that they snagged them because of aerosol restirctions, but my Bro said they never do that in country. Course there\'s always the exception to prove the rule...

I wouldn\'t be surprised if it happened
But I think it could arrive today or tomorrow.

That was just a bad decision, trial and errors they call it, it\'s not fubared but it was looking better before that last step. I\'ll get on fixing this today.
Not happy with the prep work either, the underarm on the left side is really rough, stuff I didn\'t see irl shows up way too much on a closeup pic.
