amen to that, really sweet yellow!

...personally, i never ever want to paint anything yellow again. damn i hate that colour...

True that yellow is hard to work with, hard to cover and getting messy at the first chance. Takes double the time to make it right, just cause it's yellow.
The only trick I know is not to try to cover with yellow straight, but start with heavier browns (Ie parasite brown, or beasty), then orange, then yellow. I dubbed it the 'Triple basecoat waste of time'

Glad some good is coming out of this rotten bastard elf.

Well, the effort paid off. It looks good. Creamy, even. Yeah, yellow sucks. I shudder every time I think about that entire Bad Moons army LittleLeadMen painted a while ago.

I'm shuddering now.

Okay, things have been hectic lately, so I had a hard time focusing on my paintings, but over a couple short and somewhat frustrating sessions, I managed to get the gold done. Things should get back on track now, hopefully.
Given the original pics I took this time were somewhat underexposed, I had to blast the lighting in PS quite a bit, might offset the result a little, but close enough.

There is plenty of material and articles around NMM, but some things you can only learn by doing them, so that's what I'm doing; learning while painting.
Not dissatisfied with the result actually, far from perfect, or smooth, but I think I'll have solid bases next time I want to tackle a mini in NMM.
That's about all the NMM I can take for now, so I guess I'll refresh myself over the next few sessions by working on my secondary project, which shall be revealed shortly.

looks great greenie i still think the face is the best point of this mini, the gold also seems good but its still i bit hard to really judge with these pictures.

looking forward for some kicka$$ studio pictures of the mini+horse in full glory now!

Yeah, I know what you mean by those hectic things, mate I'm happy to have just a few free hours for myself during every week ... finishing new house to move from flat during summer, family, work, ... blah. Anyway, nice to see you did more work on him - looks pretty nice so far - as much as I can see from those "grainy" pictures. Hope you will have some less hectic days to finish him Keep going.

Wow, just tuning in now, but those bridle gems! And yes, the elf's face is very lifelike. Like the colors you're using, & can't wait to see the gems on the elf painted in too. Will they match the bridle?:fingers-crossed:

Yes, the 3 large gems will be the same color as the ones on the harness, the other ones (Set in gold) will be purple too. I think there is a pattern emerging here.

I'm glad to have made some serious progress here, and that it's received positively, I been in much doubt on this one

@Skelly: I dunno about kickass studio pics, I got only one way to make pics, and it's pretty much hit and miss. But I guess it'll look good when it's all finished

@Phaty. Thanks; It's a shame that we'd let silly things like ''life'' get in the way of mini painting.

It's funny you should mention the face, cauz it's the one part that was the easiest and fastest to paint... well, guess it doesn't *always* have to be hard. I do take some pride in my skinwork.

yep pictures is a big issue, sigh...i do the same thing.
im going for the "quantity" thing, after taking like 200 pic there must be at least one decent among them... hopefully...

Okay, I reworked the silver NMM, I think I can call that done, also did the purple thingies (Not that satisfied, I'll prolly fix it some when I did the gems.) and hair, which will also receive some more work since the 'shine' is not coming through as I wanted it... erm.
Pretty crappy update actually.

Anyway, after that, only the gems, freehand border on the cloth and finally the shield are left... almost done

Keep it up, you're almost there :good: Once the gems go on it'll be a lot easier to see how well that purple has worked. I can't really see anything on the hair though, very close colour to the base of the helmet / top of the armour, although your pics never seem to do your work justice

Nice gloves, particularly that rear shot of the shield arm. Which I now realise is probably going to be obscured by the shield shame.

In my opinion the gold on the helm is pretty cool, but the "silver" is too dark in my opinion. It may be the photos. But really silver... well... but once again it is personal taste.

@BPI: Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing what the post-gem effect will be.
I pondered quite a bit on the hair color, black or silver. I ruled out the blonde which finally could have been the best choice. I'll try re-highlighting the black or maybe change it completely :/

@Taggi: Just say it out loud, lol
I agree it is dark, it's my first try on NMM and I'm still trying to get my bearings, at this point I'd have to redo it completely and I just can't bear it, so it'll have to do. Better luck next time as they say.
Photos are still a bit under lighted, but I cannot blame everything on the pics sadly.

I can always skip the silver and just call it cast-iron.
