[War Griffon]

Well it looks like GW are going to release a figure for from the Warhammer Online thingy that has been harped on about for a while now.
Initial thoughts is that I like it but it doesn\'t neccessarily jump out at me in any way.

It reminded me a lot of the mini they did for last years GD.

Reading through the rest of the blurb on GW\'s newsletter it is being released as part of a collectors edition of Warhammer Online and will also include a hardback copy of artwork for the game along with other stuff.

The bad news is checking the relese on Play.com it is not due for release until 26/09/2008 and at a price of around £60

Probably, they have been flogging it like a dead horse for the last two years now but apart from the trailer where the orc went catapulting into the castle wall and I colapsed laughing it seems they are hoping that the fan boys will keep them surported on this.

It will compete in the US.. but It will be cheaper here than the UK I bet. Prices in the UK seem to be very inflated at the moment and I bet that collectors set retails for $75.00 or less in the USA. It will have to or as you say people wont buy it..fan boys or not.

Forgotten they have the rules of getting people hooked - low prices on the first taste.

And that figure aint worth the price, even were it made of gold.

Did anyone else hear echoes of Yoda in that first sentence? Was that the intent?

It\'ll take a lot to compete with WoW and I agree, they better undercut price in the beginning at least. If it turns out to be a killer game then they can jack up the price on the expansions but I don\'t see mass exodus from WoW to WHO as WoW has become practically a household name at this point and outside of our community GW titles are far lesser known.

Different Games

The price is for the Collectors Edition of the game. The normal version of game will be the normal $60US most likely when the announce the price.

I pre-ordered the CE of the game on Tuesday from Amazon, it was listed as $80US. For the extra $20 I get the mini, 225pg Artbook, Graphic Novel and a lot of extra in game stuff. I think the mini would run more than $20 if it was released stand-alone so I am ok with the pricing point. (not to mention the hardback artbook would be about $40US on its own.)

I think WoW and War are two completely different games that will have overlapping audiences but also cater to different portion of the MMO demographic. War being darker fantasy and a huge portion of it being PvP and RvR and WoW being mainly PvE orientated. I think they will both do very well.

Its for Fantasy, GW split the rights ownerships for thier different lines to different companies. THQ has the rights for 40K, Cyanide is doing Blood Bowl for Xbox Live, I am not sure who has the rights for Fantasy, I know Mythis/EA has the MMO rights but I am not sure if it extends to other genres of games or not.

PvP is player vs player, RvR realm vs realm, and PvE is player vs environment.

Its the difference between a majority of the content being you and your friends vs some computer controlled beasties and you and your friends against other people and their friends.

i think GW have done a good idea as when you buy the game, theres then no subscription fees where as wow does. But unlike wow WAR needs a better computer to run it, where as Wow was on purposely basic as it meat more people could play it.

I think the model is ok, shame it is only released in the collectors edition.

I doubt i will get it, i dont play wow and dont like mmorpg, its (only in my opinion) computer game crack. My best friend plays wow and dedicates a lot to it. But everyone has there own tastes so do your own. Though WAR did entice me as it looks quite good, and seems alright when i played it at GD, shame the collectors price is a lot, might get an american one imported lol

Don\'t worry, aftermarket sites like eBay will be flodded with them in no time..

Again I think this is an issue of the Studio letting down a figure in both Painting and Photography.

I do think that it does have a great deal of potential for a painter who has the ability and desire to \"Knock the socks off\" the viewer.

Just a Bl**dy shame about it being attached to a Computer game. (Oh and the Price)
