Aside from the whole "We're gonna pretend resin costs more, and therefore charge you more" issue, I worry about the durability.
As I understand whats being said GW are intending to move to the hard resin similar to if not identical that Privateer Press are using.
Long term durability, well paint it rather than leave it to yellow due to ultra-violet light an it "should" have a long lifespan.
Cost issue s however, that's another ball park entirely. Resin isn't as expensive as metal and given the vast quantities GW will be buying they will be able to force a damn good price from their suppliers. I wouldn't be surprise if the production cost per figure was in the region of 5p, which makes a huge profit margin and the proposed price hike just obscene.
I have worries with resin models of coming back to find the resin has softened and left everyone with a case of droopy sword syndrome, or worse.
Does someone who's owned a few more resin pieces know if this is a legitimate fear, or do they have newer formulations that will handle the heat better?
Its a completely legitimate concern.
The production quality of Forgeworld is terrible and so a lot of times is GW own "Quality Control", so expect broken and bent parts.
Currently working on the Eldar Phantom Titan (No I didn't buy it, commission work) and its taken over an hour and a half to clean the mouldlines off the feet and shins.
Bent parts, misaligned components, stupid unneccessary complications in components. (12 parts per each foot section? WTF?)
Its taken 30 metal pins to hold the Legs together.
A completly stupid method of hinging the cockpit so you can see the pilot.
Oh Yes the most important part...NO INSTRUCTIONS.
