Ah, I saw the Epire Griffon. Looked cool to me. And it was lovely to meet you in person Margo
The Open was abust though as someone made a huge cock up and forgot to order three trophies so they only had a 1st place. Probably annoyed a few people though Seb Perbet was a worthy winner.
Well, got back from my eighth Golden Demon and failed to get that tenth trophy. My three entries all made first cut but failed to place. Ah well.
Weirdly it didn\'t bug me much in the end, and I didn\'t spend the bus trip home working out new entries. I just felt kind of \'meh\' about the whole thing. I think it\'s because I\'ve done it all except the Slayer Sword. So I\'m not sure it would have really made me much happier if I had got a demon. Who knows... and there\'s always next year.
However, the day was cool. Great to meet all the new faces. It was nice that Tammy decided to join us and she didn\'t seem grumpy. I dunno, it seemed to me that she enjoyed herself and took great pleasure in telling her entry/wall story
Felt a bit sorry for Victor Hardy, who\'se demon prince was utterly gorgeous but got cut due to his use of specific religeous imagery. I kind of see the point though, to me, the images seemed more out of place in 40k than it being a position of offense taken (which I believe was the problem). Stunning work though and I think it would have done extremely well otherwise.
Joint entry from Seth Nash (conversion) and Matt Parkes (paint). Can open: worms everywhere! Quite nice though.
Nice to catch up with the Perry twins and Steve Saleh whom I haven\'t seen since my time at Foundry (none of whom recognised me after shedding 5 stone in weight).
I seriously love the Ogre Kingdoms range. I definately must own some of those. Particularly the Assassin with martial arts Gnoblar
So, Golden Demon. To be honest, I don\'t think I\'m good enough at painting. I\'m a good all rounder and I\'d place my sculpting ability against anyone in the contest but my painting just doesn\'t bear the close scrutiny of a Matt Parkes or a Joe Hill. I feel the Slayer Sword is beyond my grasp unless I do something insane and big which can make up for this slight shortcoming. So, not sure what happens next. I don\'t enjoy doing the big stuff and I don\'t think I really have what it takes in the single categories. I\'ve got 9 demons already and four of them are gold. Maybe it\'s time to think about retiring from competition.
But it was a fun day
