GW makes yet another stupid decision!

This decision by GW seems perfectly fine to me, I don\'t really see the problem. I don\'t see how you could fairly judge if you\'re putting dragons, vs. tanks, vs. Singles, vs. squads. I don\'t think there is interest enough to make it multiple categories.

I say that letting large minis in on the same category as small ones is unfair. Comparing apples and oranges is what it is.

Your point about splitting the Youngbloods into all the \'adult\' categories does indeed seem to be an obvious solution, but are there enough youngblood entries to qualify this?

Comparing apples and oranges? There is a substantial difference between the size of a dwarf and an ogre, but they managed to cope here.

It may also simply fall to the people doing the sign ups for the competition.

Last year\'s Atlanta GD had Sauron, Cave Trolls and the like in LOTR Large/Group category. This year, though AFAIK there was no rule change, they were stuck in the LOTR Single category.

11 months!?!?!?!? I\'ve been at it 11 years and theres no way I\'d ever get close to winning! :(
Do you paint alone or in a group? Do you attend conventions? Meeting other painters, exchanging ideas, and seeing their minis and how they paint first hand helps a lot. If you cannot go to conventions or have no other painter in your area, on-line contests that give helpful feedback are just as good.

Drink.

That does sucks. Maybe this is a new marketing strategy. Maybe they will come out with Young Blood\'s paint sets for £200. Wouldn\'t want the future of our company to hurt themselves on those pesky adult bottles of paint.lol

Seriously though; It’s just silly. Who comes up with these decisions?

It\'s Games Workshop\'s competition.

Every category is restrictive to creativity in one way or another.

There are many simple things GW could do to the show to make it better, but they wont cos they don\'t have to.

Splitting the YB to make it more varied? an extra class? What do you think casting 3 extra demons and drybrushing them will do GD\'s profits!!!

It\'s frustrating, it\'s amazing that we still get our knickers in a twist over it!!

Perhaps in the UK there might be.
All the GD\'s I\'ve attended have 1000\'s of entries in the Youngblood Categories.
Similarly the other \"Adult\" categories are equally well subscribed.

This ruling from GW seems to me to be \'Dumbing Down\' the YB\'s, which in my opinion is a mistake.
There are several young painters I know who are capable of making First Cut in the YB\'s, so why the restrictions?
I can\'t answer for GW but as I said earlier it strikes me as being a patronising viewpoint akin to the \"Children should be seen but not heard\" attitude I sometimes encountered as a kid.
GW\'s concept seems to be saying that they regard the Youngbloods as \'disposable\' and therefore the entrants are not serious about painting. I personally think it\'s linked either conciously or unconciously to their sales and marketing strategies of selling \"Toy Soldiers\" and not regarding the Golden Deamon aspects of this hobby as being a major part of their appeal.

(Oh dear another GW bashing thread, and I\'m just as guilty of bashing them as I am of buying their products.)

Todays youth, our future

In military modelling in the U.K,we have sadly had the attitude of tokenism when it comes to our young modellers, thankfully that is beginning to change . However go to a major show and the average age of the winners is early 40s which is a by-product of not encouraging our youngsters. The answer in relation to G.D. is simple ; Young Bloods/standard class,......Young Bloods/monsterclass,.........Youngbloods/veihcles class. (Its not rocket science ), and how about a Young bloods best of show, radical EH!We MUST encourage our young people as much as possible ,they not us, are the future of this artistic hobby.Lets hope G.W. realises that the youngsters are also their future also .After all the average age at a Games Day anywhere in the world must be 14-16.Us old timers are the minority group!lol
