GW prices going up. AGAIN!!

it has been said many times that this is a \'luxury\' market aimed at those of us with disposable income. the interest rates keep on going up so they will compensate with price rises.

we all move away from the hobby for a bit and discover other manaufacturers and often feel a little ripped off for not knowing about all these \'great\' alternatives.

GW put out a GW product and brand their products witha game to go with it. they will always seem pricey when compared with a generic miniature form another company. if you discount that selling point then they become expensive

it\'s a bit like food at disneyland, you can buy food at other places and the like, but essentially you are buying a branded product and if you want to eat while you\'re at disneyland then you need to buy their food. (it\'s your choice whether you agree or not)

Their profits are plummetting and they do what any short-sighted company does in this position..hike their prices.

They are only delaying the inevitable IMO.

I say this every year mind you and they are still here:D

price rises annoy the crap out of me but what really gets me reving is splash releases!!! why the hell bring out something cool or a great value box that people are going to buy tonnes of and only make \"X\" amount of it. i know it makes people buy lots while they are available, but here in aus GW tend to aim more for the kiddy market and what kid can afford to buy 5 boxes of the new black orcs at $65 a box. i have one customer at the indy i work in who is 15 and he wants to do a black orc army after seeing the new models and he can only get enough money to get a whole bunch of them at xmas and birthday time.

i would really like to meet the person that decides what is splash release and what isnt, because i would like to punch him in the face and tell him to smarten up.

well angry rant over. i just hope that the price rise doesnt hit aus any time soon.

Price rises... :cussing: and all that.

Still, I\'ll buy from GW if I like the mini enough, simple as that. Will probably put me off building any new armies though.

Good luck to them.

As for e-bay, no-one is selling plastic elven steed sprues or 6 sets of Tichi Huinchi\'s cold one riders. So yeah, I still buy from GW, and will continue to do so, simply because; there\'s no other way to get what I want. One thing\'s for sure; I won\'t be buying a new army.

The day i will love is when people realise they can nip over to Hasslefree and buy AMAZING models for only £3-4 each.

You could even field a Grymn army under Imperial Guard or Space Marine rules, go on you know you want to!

Since no one has said it yet, let me be the first to invoke the

\"AND DRINK\"

I know Mick/EFS mentioned metal costs, but most of the GW stuff I\'ve seen in the last two to three years has been plastic, and plastic is made from oil - and oil is hella volitile price wise lately. So, guess what - the prices are going to rise.

Suck it up fanboys, you know you\'ll pay it.

This is why I have an Empire army from Foundry.

i swear i shall punch the next person who uses the price of oil to justify plastic price hikes.

use your brains people. transport and packaging costs blow the cost of the plastic being used out of the water. the amount of oil used to get product to your LGS shelves is almost the same for metal as for plastic.

*edit* a bit harsh right after your post steelcult. it\'s not aimed at you. just seen it said too often and my gears are well ground over it. :D

The price of oil justifies the price hikes.

OK, now all you need to do is send me the cash to purchase a ticket to sunny Brisbane. I\'ll happily take a punch for a free holiday, and I hear that your healthcare system is vastly superior to the one in the UK too should I need any facial repairs. Perfect! :D

Transportation costs are most assuredly part of it - but one has to also fiure in the base cost of the materials used for manufacturing - and due to the discounts most manufactures get for bulk shipping (at least in the states you can work out such deals with transport companies) I would still argue that this is more due to the rise in the cost of materials rather than transport.

But you have to admit that at least the cost of oil argument makes more sense than the cost of the mold argument. :D

I have to disagree Bill, GW\'s new stuff is really good, lots of improvements over their older product. In fact the releases over the last year or two have been of extremely high quality on average (but with some real shockers scattered amongst it I\'ll admit). There\'s even been some good value for money with releases like Skull Pass.

Course that\'s just my opinion. Ultimately, if If GW release something that I think is good then I\'ll buy it. It\'ll still cost me the same sort of price as similar things from the other manufaturers out there, so no worries to me.

A small bit of extra expense doesn\'t bother me somehow. Perhaps I\'ve just seen so many price rises now that they roll over me like peaceful waves! lol

GW are the market though! For all the love the smaller companies get on CMON, they are still just a drop in the ocean compared to the size and sales of Games Workshop. We know about the other companies, that they produce quality stuff, because we see them discussed here, but the average GW customer doesn\'t have a clue. It\'s not that they are fanboys, they just happen to have got into the GW hobby and don\'t realise other options are out there.

And there are so many reasons that the death of GW would be a bad thing to the world of miniatures, they have done a whole lot of innovating believe it or not, but I seem to remember there was a thread a while back covering this very subject.

But crap, I\'m posting in a GW price rise thread, I hate these things. Damn it!

Spoken like a true GW employee!

I must say, lots of people will complain about the rises, but as every time, you will still buy their stuff. Have th eballs to stand by your convictions for god sakes. Ok some will some wont.....

But at least it\'s not as bad as Rackham are about to do eh?
