Wouldn\'t it stand to reason that if people KNOW the penalties for their actions (murder, rape) then they should accept the penalties involved?

By knowing the consequences and doing the act anyway, is acknowledging that you are willing to accept those consequences.

And if the fear of death isn\'t enough to stop you from murdering, then I seriously doubt the idea of life in a prison cell with all the side benefits will.

OK, so I decide to murder someone. Do you honestly think that the charge of carrying an illegal weapon will stop me if I\'m ready to accept the charge of murder?

Honestly, I\'d rather be shot than stabbed or bludgeoned to death, just a personal preferance.

Depends on what the murder decides to do with his weapon. I\'m betting a quick blow to the head with a bat is far less painful than being shot repeatedly in the kneecaps, for instance. I\'d rather have regulated weapons, if only because while we\'re not sure it\'d reduce crime, at least it\'s sure not to increase it. Nothing to lose, right ? (cue \"WRONG !\" :D )

I do not doubt that. This discussion however focuses more on the penalty than on the knowledge of the subject.
But as you have already started, by committing the act you usually do NOT accept the penalty, you accept that there will be a risk that this penalty wil be carried out upon you. You probably just hope it won\'t :D The same goes for the mentioned guard. He just hopes he will NOT get bludgeoned, but he knows that it could very well happen. So he does what he can to ensure it won\'t happen. The murderer/rapist does the same by trying not to get caught.

If guns were made illegal to citizens then the only people who would have them would be cops and crooks. And which one would show up to the scene of the crime first? If I am a crook and have a gun and know that the only other people who have guns are other crooks and cops I think I would be a bit more brazen with my burglaring. On the other hand, most crime related deaths of innocents is when they try to defend themselves.

That\'s because most people are not trained or familiar with their guns. Half the people I know with a gun, will buy one, shoot it once or twice and put it away until an emergency.

I can field strip my weapon blindfolded, load the clip in the dark, and if I point the gun at someone, I will pull the trigger. None of that freeze crap, trying to hold them there until the police get there. If they are in my home without my permission, I will assume they are armed, and .40 cal bullets will be flying.

Hey, what\'s up with that anyway ? In France, IIRC, if someone shows up in your home uninvited and threatens you AND you have a gun (with matching license), you have to warn him, then fire TWO warning shots in your ceiling, and only then are you entitled to improving his internal air circulation. Yeah right, and he\'s just going to stand there while you\'re having fun blowing up your ceiling with a 12-gauge ? More likely he\'ll gut you on sight.

And therein lies one of the big problems with letting citizens have guns....police jump the gun lots, and nervous home owners are even more likely to do so. Gun control is a good thing, in my opinion.

I think someone said earlier that if people are determined enough to kill, they can get their hands on anything. Fine, good point. I think we should legalize assault weapons, mounted machine guns, and small rocket silos.

And, as the police are never fast enough, we should make it mandatory that every citizen carry a desert eagle, whether they\'re a twitchy, myopic grandmother, or a hopped up, trigger happy militia man. That way the poor bastard who robs a grocery store will learn his lesson quickly, unless he bought himself an RPG launcher at the local wal-mart.

Nah, I\'ll just put a sign up that says: Warning!! This home is owned by a marksman with a large caliber handgun, break in at your own risk. lollol

We banned handguns in this country....

But as our police generally aren\'t armed the only people left with guns are the crooks:duh:

A former scout told me this one when talking about the danger of asking one\'s way in a hamlet by a raining night...:flip::bouncy::flip:

What if someone lives above you?
Nah, shoot him then fire the warning shot\'s. If no one witnesses it they just have the sound of the shots and the holes to go by.

I have steered clear of this thread long enough....

I will likely stir up much controversy, but I will have to say that I agree with you all.

Carry on.

We have a similar law in the states. If someone uninvited forces his or her way into your house, a principle known as \"castle doctraine\" applies. It is very similar to this previously mentioned Fech law, minus the warning shouts, and your two required \"warning shots\" can be fired one at the head and the other at the torso, center of mass. My preferred weapon of choice to enforce this doctraine is my trusty 1911A Spingfield Armory automatic gov\'t .45 loaded with steel jacketed hollow points. Criminal walk in but don\'t out... (dead men don\'t file lawsuits either)

Scott Peterson update

Originally this topic was started to discuss Scott Peterson, a California man who is accused of killing his wife and her unborn child the dumping the body on a \"fishing trip\" on Christmas Eve. Mr. Peterson at the time was invoved in an affair with a \"massage therapist\" named Amber Frey. She recently has finished her testimony and cross examination and in my humble opinion, Scott Peterson better update his will cause with any luck, his butt will fry in the electric chair !!! (Really I think California uses lethal injection, but the chair is much more comforting to imagine...LOL). Stay turned fellow death penalty advocates for more wacky Scott Peterson updates!!!! Things are not looking good for the pro-life crowd.
