Hasslefree 28mm Artemis

Hey all, this is Hasslefrees excellent 28mm Artemis miniature that I recently painted to get back into the painting \"groove\" for GD. I tried to give it a semi-historical feel by keeping to plain leather and bronze with a bit of weathering using paint and pigment. The base was \"painted\" with MIG pigments. This was also an oppertunity for me to try out my new light tent (an adapted version from licams tutorial) and Wargriffons GIMP article. I very much enjoyed painting her, and I think she came out pretty well.

Don\'t know what it is but the pictures seem a bit \"Soft focus\".
You might want to check the front element of the camera lens in case you\'ve got a smear on it.

The bronze looks great and authentic.
But a couple of other points stand out on the mini itself:
There\'s a huge paint grain on the left leg,
you\'ve left a small mould line on the same leg\'s wrapping.

6.5 seems about right, but it was 6.9 when I got there. There\'s some of the piece I appreciate and other parts that I don\'t, like what DR pointed out...

Like I said before, the base here looks a bit unfinished and \"empty\". You said it looks better in real life, but that\'s not evident from the pictures. Also, I think that a large, smooth shield like this calls for some sort of motif, especially since the rest of the mini is so clean. Coupled with the points Mike made, I think your score will end up in the 6.5-7 region, I\'m afraid. But, it IS a nice looking miniature and if you are happy with it that\'s the important thing.

I think this mini looks great overall, specially the metals.:) Something that I think lowers the score is that the skin could use some more shading.

I think DR is right about the focus and overall there are several spots where the paint almost looks too thick (like on the butt and on the left leg). Also there are a few places on the flesh where the shading is a bit sudden and other places where there is not enough depth and range from highs to lows.

The metals are the highlight for me.

I think these are the main things bringing the rating down, but it\'s a 7 from me. Overall I think you\'ve done a good job.
