I wonder what this is going to mean for the new Batman film. Obviously they\'ve finished making it but will his death have an effect on the release date?

Probably will not affect it..although I guess he won\'t be doing a sequel.

This is a human being who possessed huge talent and he deserves to be respected just as any other young man who dies young. These sequel jokes are entirely in bad taste.

Hard to respect someone who throws it all away with some chemical cocktail, no matter how talented.

It could have been an accidental drug overdose. Many people do drugs just for fun, heck half the people I know do . . . do I respect them less for that, yes, however, it is still extremely sad when someone dies in that way.

It\'s sad because they have a good life and have made poor decision because they can, because they feel as though they are immortal so to speak. They think it will never happen to them. I feel sorry for anyone who dies because they didn\'t think it could happen to them. And I would like to think people have more sense . . . sometimes they don\'t though.

I guess this type of death saddens me more because right now both of my 17 year old brother and sister have gotten into serious trouble with drugs. 17 and they are already taking part in that world. My one question for my sister is . . . \"why?\" Her response was \"because it\'s fun\". To which I said, \"I\'m sorry that that\'s what you have to do in order to find fun in your life. Life should be more meaningful.\"

I\'m gutted. I really respected his work and he seemed like a pretty decent guy. News of celebrity deaths doesn\'t normally bother me that much but this one definately brought on an \"Oh shit!\" reaction.

Reading this thread that has changed somewhat to a \"Jesus, what the hell am I reading?\" reaction.

1) Presume much? I\'m aware he could have died of a drug overdose, but that doesn\'t necessarily mean that he has.

2) It could be suicide. If so, don\'t you think that he deserves some pity rather than scorn?

3) It could be an accidental death related to recreational drug use. Now some people seem to have a problem with that, but I bet they take recreational drugs too. There are two frequently used smileys promoting one or recreational drug built into this forum for Christ\'s sake. :drunk: All it takes is one miscalculation with any kind of drug, be it heroin, perscription drugs or the alcohol most people here seem to be so fond of, and you open yourself up to a great many risks. Even if he has died of an overdose it\'s not a reason to assume he\'s thrown his life away for drugs.

You\'re all entitled to your opinions of course, but I really have been surprised by some of them. Maybe I\'m too liberal for this sort of thing. I just think that even if someone has committed suicide, is an occasional drug user, or a full blown addict they don\'t cease to be a human being.

What a waste of a life. Why can\'t people appreciate the life they have without taking drugs.

He really was quite talented. I feel sorry for wife ex fiancee and daughter.

word. (i agree)

we shouldn\'t assume it was, there is no reason to believe that this was an OD because of recreational drug use. the drug found on his bed was ambien, a commonly prescribed sleep medication, not exactly a designer recreational drug. his family has also said that he was sick with pneumonia.

sure it seems easy to assume that it was recreational drug use, because he was young, hot, and famous - but that seems like a very cynical, and self satisfying judgmental assumption to make, especially since the evidence is inconclusive at this point. either way its rude of us to insult him. commiserate, dont judge, it speaks more about our character than the deceased )

i guess we\'ll all find out tomorrow after the autopsy.
sux, he was a good actor, with great range. it\'ll be tough to watch \"the black knight.\"

It is strange how the media can portray things and how quick and easy it is to jump to the wrong conclusions.

I woke up this morning to read the story that said he may have died from a drug overdose and I instantly had images of needles and heroin.

Now the details are coming out bit by bit and Yahoo has included that the drugs found on the bed were prescription sleeping meds which casts a different light on it.

Whatever happened it is a real shame. He was the same age as myself and when I think about all the things I have yet to do and hope to do it is a scary thought that life could be taken away before I get a chance to do them. My thoughts are with his daughter who will have to grow up without her father and without really having a chance to get to know him.

Thank You lono that was exactly how I regarded the whole situation. I know how easy it is to accidentaly overdose on even the most innocuous of prescription medicines so I\'m not going to follow any roads of condemnation.

He was a talented actor as proved by the underated film \"Ned Kelly\" as well as [/i]\"Monsters Ball\"[/i] and I am still looking forward to seeing his performance as \"The Joker\". I think that our regret as his audience should be that he will not be able to be witness his continuing growth as an actor.
But our greatest regrt is that he will not be a part of his childs life.

Apparently he was having trouble sleeping during filming as the Joker, and it was just sleeping pills.
And his family state he wasn\'t the suicidal type.

Who knows, but I have a feeling it wasn\'t intended.

But it\'s came as a bit of a shock. At first I thought it may be a fake news story, where somebody has created the news page to imitate Yahoo\'s.

what i found

From all the following of the upcoming batman film and his version of the joker, what I found was that:

He apparently secluded himself for almost a month in a room, reading books on killers, and the old batman comics, since he was affraid that his joker would be just an imitation of jack\'s. Instead, he thought by the seclusion, he could work on making his own demented personality for the joker, his own voices, infelctions, etc.

From what I have heard and saw of batman (the 6 minutes of the start of the film, and the sounds of his joker in other previews, etc)...forget jack!!!!

However, what he said in an interview (it was at aintitcoolnews.com some time ago)...that experience gave him nightmares and sleeping issues, which he said again in oct/nov have gotten worse.

The latest info said his sleeping pills were prescribed but a regular dose, only worked for 1 hour.

Also, his family, whether it\'s true or not, said he is ill right now (pneumonia)...it\'s quite possible he took too many pills since he was ill and was really trying to get to sleep; figuring he may feel sick in the morning, but not really understanding that even regular drugs (not just illegal ones), can cause an overdose.

Just a hunch.

Nor me....

Seems to be a lot of (the usual) ott knee-jerk stuff here.

Sad indeed... seemed a decent bloke, as well as a talented actor.

You can\'t blame folks for that though...

The forums are often home to \'gut reactions\'...whether right or wrong is meaningless.

Some folks get angry at news like this, some shake their heads with pity, others make bad jokes....It\'s par for the course. I\'m not disappointed in that at all, it\'s what people do in these types of situations.

Nothing to point fingers at, everyone reacts differently. If they didn\'t this place would suck eggs.

Its deliberate - having worked in the media, headlines are written in such a way to sell papers, not to actually look at the facts -

As for the rest, he was a decent actor, and from the interviews I\'ve seen seemed to be the kind of guy you could go to the local with and knock back a pint or two.

As for the nature of his overdose - it may have been accidental (unless they come up with notes and such it most likely was, but in the end the determination will be made with out his final thoughts) but then again, so was John Belushi\'s. Yet because Belushi was on illegal drugs and Ledger was on prescription drugs, Ledgers death is somehow cleaner to most people.

Years ago, I was only getting maybe an hour and a half sleep a night. That went on for about a year before I finally asked my doc for help. I still wasn\'t sleeping great with the meds but there was one night that it really got to me. I took an extra tablet. I didn\'t seem to do anything. Then I took another kind of med, which I had been avoiding as it sounded like I may not react well to it. I didn\'t. I felt worse. After a while I decided to take another tablet of the first kind. I felt like I needed to sleep, and if I was putting my health, even my life at risk, then so be it. I wasn\'t suicidal, but I was desperate to sleep. Luckily nothing bad happened. I just felt groggy the next day. The point of this is that I know how lack of sleep can affect you, so if Heath Ledger did take an overdose, accidental or not, I can understand why, even though it would not have been the sensible thing to do. Of course, this is still conjecture, until we know what the cause of death was.

True!

I was referring to the drugs comments to be honest.
