Help me become a football fan.

Aye Vikey!
So with that in hand, and the evidence...I stick to my original consensus!

You guys break too easily lol

I can see a game so clearly in my head, a bunch of big Americans charging in opposite directions screaming \"not the face\" in a high pitch. The ball laying in the middle of the field as they all try to hide behind the posts lol Oh god, classic.

...No offence :p

I was going to say, find the nearest (big if you want) team to you and support them. That\'s what a true fan would do. \'Glory hunters\' do my head in.
However, then I read this

My friends support Middlesbrough, Liverpool and Leeds.
Leeds, choose Leeds. We need all the \'help\' we can get. You\'d certainly never be accused of glory hunting in this instance!

I understand correctly only Liverpool is any good out of those?

And your friend is very astute and undeniably right lol

Rugby is a game played by men with odd shaped balls :p

If it\'s such a \"manly\" game why is there so much hugging and homoeroticism. They seem to spend half the match with their heads stuck up each others\' bums ??? Not to mention the bonding sessions afterwards which again seem to focus around beer and bums. At least footballers use their ill-gotten gains for proper pursuits like sports cars and strippers (and hair products and moisurisers and... maybe I\'ll stop there  )

Back to the topic of how to get interested in football - try video games. The FIFA games are pretty good as you get to know the teams and players as well as an idea of what playing football actually entails. Generally speaking, thevideo games are much better than the real thing as there\'s more skill on show and generally more goals as well.

American footballers really are hardcore. Check it out.

And yes, before anyone else says it, I think the fact I chuckled at this clip may well prove that I\'ve become dangerously desensitized through overexposure to the internet.

 What sort of cruel, evil swine would ever recommend the FIFA games to anyone? They may well be licensed through their backsides, but giving you an idea of what playing football actually entails, not really. PES is the footy game of champions, FIFA is shoddy style over substance in comparison. Sorry, but I had to say it. I\'d rather play rugby for real than play FIFA.

This sort of cruel, evil swine  lol

I\'ve been playing the FIFA games since forever and with the obvious exception of FIFA 64 have been happy with them. I\'ve played and owned a couple of the PES ones too on different formats but the familiarity of the FIFA format is what keeps me with them (kind of like not changing banks or insurers because it seems like a hassle). I\'m sure PES is excellent but I\'m happy where I am thanks :p

Not so much the accident as they clapped him as he got back onto the pitch.....

Oh and PES hurt my thumbs when I played it on my Brother\'s console at Xmas, too intense for me. ;)

Time for a reasoned well rounded and insightful response to some posts. Football is kack, American football is kacker and playing these games on a computer is possibly the kackiest thing ever. I cant stand the sight of some of the players, think their so friggin great cos they can kick a ball about and maybe actually get it in the net, over paid under brained muppets, if I were paying some bonehead billions of pounds every week I\'d expect him to get the ball in the net every time he touched the thing not spend half the season sick saying my toe hurts or half the match rolling on the floor screaming like a girl cos someone may have actually grazed past him, I\'d like some football \'superstars\' to come to my local Rugby club so the lads can jump on their overpaid skinny little bodies, Christ\'s balls I hate football, the only thing I think I hate more ar those that support ManU but have never actually seen them play in the flesh, whats the point in supporting a team just because it the in thing to do, mindless. If you going to give your support to something why not make it the local bunch of mups, I\'m sure it\'ll be cheaper, the players will actually appreciate your attendence more, and what could be better than seeing your own home town and possibly people you know actually win something. I\'m done now thank you.

How can YOU live with that? Free-flowing football? You are having a laugh!

The mighty Arsenal is the only team worth supporting for thier style of play!!

Well firstly i have to agree with Lono here, its PES or nothing at all.
Secondly a team.
I personally started watching soccer a couple of years ago, when Australia finally qualified for the world cup, i went through the highs and low\'s of the world cup, (Darn those diving italians!) and went on to watch the English league, supporting any team with an Aussie in it.
I then started to watch the Hyundai A League, starting with a match between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United that i actually got to go see in person. From then on its Melbourne Victory all the way! If your looking for an English club to follow though, theres no going past Arsenal, the EPL team i support.

Poor kid! I saw a report on it yesterday....The little boy is just fine, despite a few cuts a scrapes...the Football player was more shooken up than the kid! He was having a hard time with it....but alls well that ends well.

It certainly isn\'t, but now imagine that 150 G-force impact without the benefit of a helmet, pads, and a six-figure salary. That\'s what we call \'rugby\'.:innocent:

I beg to differ. Over here we try and avoid that and score what is commonly known as a \'try\'. Changing impact angles and keeping the defence on the back foot is the proper way to play the game. Movement and fluidity and skill. Saying that, I do love to see a big hit now and again. However, the constant bish-bosh of Rugby League just gets on my wick, and that\'s closer to American Football.

Avoid contact, score tries. That\'s the way! Or at least when you get tackled, make sure it\'s not easy. Body angles, lines, leave enough for a slip pass or a flip up. Continuity, ingenuity.

Wales would do well to take some lessons from what I just said :(

By the way, football is always better for actually playing it. I play once a week but i rarely watch the stuff. Match of the Day passes me by these days too. I prefer watching rugby.

i agree football is more fun for a quick knockabout(not that i can play!)

i agree that the attacking team should avoiding contact with clever play but the aim of the defence it to cover the player with the ball and take him out. agreed, the force doesn\'t need to be big - the better tackles are low, the knees and lower, and stop the player by decking him raher than by stopping him using brute force

I agree whole heartedly with Bobinator!

And it\'s Ironic for a welshman to tell us how we should all be playing Rugby right now Rev lol
I honestly never thought i\'d live to see scotland get up off its arse and start racking points! Besides I was always in the thick of the scrum. Left prop or Hooker (yes I used to be a hooker, I have no shame!). Fists and feet flying everywhere! Thats bloody great fun!

As for minimal contact..pffft! Bring it on!

And there are some of us remember in the not too distant past when Wales beat the **** out of every team going.
Still, like sex, even when it\'s bad it\'s still better than football.
