Hey everyone, I thought I\'d show my current WIP mini, & at the same time I\'m hoping to gather a few ideas as to how to finish this little fella off if it\'s no trouble.
This is (going to be) my Venerable Dreadnought, Adflictatio.
I\'ve asked a few opinions of other painters, & so far a few people have mentioned they\'d like to see some design or another on the gold sarcophagus in the middle.
(It\'s meant to hold the remians of the pilot in life-support, for those not familiar with 40K, I\'ll try & steer away from other game-specific stuff as well, or at least say what it means)
When I was painting him up, I briefly considered a little laurel wreath in brown inks on the flat gold panel, but in the end I left it blank.
I\'m not really sure it it would make the model look cluttered, or if I\'m just nervous about messing it up.. hmm.. ???
The Terminator helmet is to mark him out as my 1st Co. The 1st Company are the Terminator company, & so everyone in my army is either a Termie, or in this guy\'s case, an ex-Termie.
I ended up putting a Laruel wreath here, with his markman\'s honour within it (to represent an in-game skill), in truth it\'s not quite as neat as I\'ve managed to do in the past. I was considering doing the leaves again.
The way I did it, I painted the arm in (I\'ll try & use generic names) a dark, bluey grey (Shadow grey), & then painted the branches & leaves on, finishing the freehand before doing the blend from Shadow grey to white.
However, the white layers between the leaves don\'t quite sit right with me, I think I might go over the leaves again in Shadow grey, & then build the blend up to white, & then paing the leaves over the top of that blend.
Silly idea do we think? I\'m not 100% confident I could do them as good or better each time.
I\'ve not quite finished here, I\'ll do those rivets in gold, & also highlight the blue a little around the edges of the symbols, plus all the pipes & stuff I\'ve not done yet.
A bit of cleaning up to do here, plus I need to paint the power plant, the srapnel on the base & lots of other little details.
I\'m probably going to paint up the other set of arms (Assault Cannon & big ole\' Fist) to use him in lower points games, but at the mo this is the config I want for the army right now.
I\'ve got no ideas for his banner yet, if anyone\'s that particluarly interested you can see the other banners I\'ve done for the army in my sig link.
I was thinking of keeping the black & red chequered patteren I\'ve used throughout the army, but I\'m not sure what to do then.
Having said that I quite fancy the idea of one of these mural style banners you sometimes see, it would certainly help show him as being more err.. venerable than a *normal* Dreadnought, but I\'m not sure if I could make a good enough job of it, I\'ve never tried using GW paints as watercolours before.
Hell, I\'ve never tried watercolours before full-stop.
Any comments & thoughts on the painting & modelling most appreciated, and if you have any ideas I\'m still totally open to suggestions on this fella; So many times someone mentions a brilliant idea to me just when I\'ve finished painting, so this time I\'m going to ask beforehand!
Anything, from changing stuff I\'ve already done, to the colour of the remaining metallics, to random stuff you would have dome dfferently & why you do(n\'t) like it, Please chuck it all in.
Cheers.
