WHOO HOO! HE'S HERE! HE ARRIVED TODAY!!!!

I got my Forgeworld Dragon! He here safe and sound brightening my craptastic day. First, I discovered a broken pipe pouring water - I shut off the water to the house but that dang thing was spinning fast enough to take off. The bill is going to be huge. So I go to the store to get the pvc glue and my tire is making an odd noise but the low pressure light isn't on and it drives just fine. I get the glue, check the tire, nothing that I can see but a couple of rocks stuck in the tread. I knock those off then go to my mailbox and pick up the dragon, then about a block from home, the low pressure light comes on. I get home, check the tire again and sure enough there is a HUGE sheet metal screw in it. I drove right by the little tire shop that fixes flats - I knew I should have stopped even though the light wasn't on. Well, it will be flat by the morning.

But I got my dragon - I got my dragon - I got my dragon! Yay!!!!!!

So he gets his own thread now and I get to start cleaning up sprue - oh yay, my favorite job. lol!

Still, I'm happy he's here. That was pretty speedy delivery coming across the pond.

As much as I hate to admit it, that's exactly what I was going to say. Hey, fact of life...errrr...fantasy is that a dragon's gotta eat and a horse is a prey animal. That's why so many regular people get into trouble with horses, they forget that one little important fact. A horse is lunch to any carnivore that might happen along. When the horse doesn't know why those bushes are moving, it might as well be a dragon back there because they're going to react the same way. IT'S GOING TO EAT ME!

Now, if I can do the diorama that hit me the other day - I might have a horse getting the hell out of dodge in a corner somewhere. Not obvious but not completely hidden either. All you can see is tail and the flash of the back horseshoes.

Imagine the bottles of paint around the horse are trees and the paint brush is deadfall.

Rats! I think the horse's scale is too big. Crap! He would have been perfect. Dragon in the foreground, the actual subject of the diorama in front of him...but if you look in tthe trees behind him, you see a tail and hooves. lol!

Yeah but I can't use one of my kazillion LOTR horsies can I? I have to use a Warhammer horse which the only extras I have are the chariot horses that came with the white lions. grrrr! Time to keep my eyes peeled for used stuff on Ebay.

Ahh! Someone who GETS it! Everyone I work with (silly non-horse people) always makes fun of me when they ask me why the horses at our shows spook and I say "cause the dragon is after them." Someone finally understands!

As for your day, I'm sorry it was crappy, I hope all is better soon. Thankfully the dragon showed up to brighten it a little. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one. I like the idea of the running away horse....tryst and I had the same idea when I read that post...lol. As for scale horses, I'll dig though my stuff and see what I can find...lotsa random spare bits from the bits boxes I bought off a closing game store...might have a couple laying around looking for a dragon to run away from.

I don't begrudge people eating what they want to eat but the horse slaughter business is a bit of a sore subject with me so I'm only going to say one point. They've made slaughtering horses illegal in the States but selling and shipping to slaughter in Mexico or Canada is still legal. And you should see what those poor animals suffer through before they get to die a nasty, messy death with a captive bolt made for cattle. Just put the damn thing down humanely if you have no other choice. That's all I'm going to say on that matter because I don't want to cause a big huge spat over it - there are other forums devoted to that subject.

lol! That would be so cool Aureo! Ideally, I'm looking for something I can covert to a similar position as you see the resin horse in the photo. I don't mind if it has a rider or not, either way would be great. Thanks for looking!

Thanks SLM! It just depends on what I can convert as I mentioned above. I'll happily purchase any extras but my cash flow for the hobby depends on how my Ebay auctions go. And I still have more crap to post. lol!

Flowers are gorgeous but die too quickly, chocolate is wonderful for this choco-holic but I gain weight, jewelry I don't wear except for special occasions, and cars guzzle too much gas - besides I luv my little Honda CR-V, but horse bitz and hobby stuffs that I can actually use - now that's the PERFECT gift!

Okay now back to the actual beastie here.

I'm assembling him but decided that I am going to only do partial assembly. He has some spots that will be difficult to get at if I put him together completely. So what I did was glue the chest to the body and the tail to the body. I'm using Tacky Tack - like Blu-Tac only a different manufacturer - as a mask for when I spray the primer and paint him. The head, I glued the jaw on and it's going to remain separate until I finish painting everything. Also remaining separate are the wings, front claws and the individual back claws.

I test fitted everything, only a couple of pieces required gap filling, mainly the chest and tail. The neck, where it attaches to the body will require a small amount of gap filling but with my brush on primer, I can fill that, prime it, then paint it so you can't see the gap. The rider with be her own assembly and I'll worry about her later.

hehehe...I have three of Maggie's traditional sized sculptures. She's the one who suggested I try mixing green stuff with apoxie to see if I liked the way it handled better. It didn't work for me, but it was a good suggestion. I haven't purchased any of her mini sizes yet but if I can't find anything else, I may give it a go. Thanks for the link!
