My first hero here was someone who just did a great job with barbarians and had his own style. He wasn\'t rated highly in comparison to the elite level painters, but his work inspired me; his screen name was Munky, and unfortunately it has been a long time since he has posted. Also, Zaphod and The Artisan for also having a distinctive style and all the help they gave/give me.

Someone else who constantly amazes and inspires me, particularly with her nmm\'s is Alexi, when I run across a mini of hers I tend to end up staring for quite a while at just how she rendered some part of it just perfectly.

And of course Victoria is a constant motivation to push myself and to try new things. When working on the maiden a couple of times I nearly gave up when it was looking like crap and I\'d convinced myself it wasn\'t possible. I figured Victoria must have had moments like that and she kept pushing herself and look what she\'s done! So yeah, you could say she\'s a motivation, inspiration, and I guess...hero!

Thanks for all your responses!

It\'s been great reading about all of the mini painters you guys admire. There were many names that I\'m not too familiar with. (I\'ll have to do some research)...

@douglasgreen, I\'ve tried to find you some of Mike McVey\'s latest painted minis but had a tough time of it. I\'m afraid that this is the best I can do for now:

Hi Supervike, yup.. I used to live in Australia. I got on the university exchange program and am currently living in Taiwan. I\'m working towards fluency in Mandarin Chinese. Not too easy that\'s for sure. Aside from studying over here, I also teach English. Man, those little kids I tells ya! Terrors!

Well, while I\'m on the topic of myself (a topic I\'m fairly familiar with) I guess I\'d best let you all know who my favorites are and why.

First impressions last.. The miniature art of Bobby Wong was amongst some of the first miniature painting I saw on my return to this grand hobby/passion. Needless to say, his style really inspired me. I like the way he\'s so meticulous. Right down to specks of dust.

Jennifer Haley... What can I say? I love her subdued colors and stylistic approach to painting minis. Her transformation from average painter to God is all here on CMON. Yep, I think this site contributed greatly to her success as a top mini painter.

And then there\'s of course my favorite of the Australian painters... Arjay:) Man, he can paint! He also cut his teeth here at CMON. His style is very original. He\'s also very unassuming and humble about what he does.

That feels good! Ahhhh. I needed to get that off my chest.

Thanks guys:)

My fav is Gael for his mastery of green.It\'s not that easy to paint large surfaces!Otherwise,I prefer femal painters over male painters for reasons I won\'t explain here...
More seriously perhaps Philippe cause his minis are among the most varied in my opinion and cause they\'re enough numerous so even me can see it!:D

For me, my list includes, but by no means is limited to:

Victoria Lamb- The master in composition and light sourcing.
Jennifer Haley- Awesome blending and subtle use of color.
Jim Jackson- I love his LOTR dioramas.
Tammy Haye- Her LOTR minis inspired me to pick back up my paintbrush after a 17 year hiatus.
Marike Riemer- I love her blending and freehand work.
Mike Dodd- A great painter in his own right, but more importantly a wise and patient teacher to those around him. He writes some of the most thoughtful and insightful posts here.
Chern Ann- A person with the vision to create a community for all us painting enthusiasts to post are work and discuss our thoughts.

Sooo many to chose from....but for me
Arjay....good ol Aussie boy
Victoria...seen all her pieces up close and they are beautiful to behold

No1 for me is Glenn Lamprecht (WHITEWOLF) 3 slayer swords...he can paint and convert with the very best...his Black Knight Wolf standard is the best freehand banner I\'ve seen.....

Hopefully the world , or at least England will see his talent at a GD very soon:innocent:

so many but i\'ll go for a list:-

Fred Reed - very smooth blending and an almost edible quality sometimes, also he was inspiriational to so many people, from the kids he taught to paint right on up to the GW store managers he took under his wing.
Tammy Haye
Joe Hill
Aegis Neugebauer (sp?) for some thought provoking work
Kerri, the member of staff at GW Salisbury crazy enough to paint warmaster (10mm) High elf phoenix guards with full blending and shading. lol! it took him a month to paint a unit of three bases bt they were beautiful....

those old GDUK painters

tim prow and mick beard, those are some names. i have old WD in the early 100\'s and they still rock!

I think it was reverend who posted a thread here a week or so that showed the ebay auction for some of Mick beard\'s golden demon winners. It was hard to believe that somebody would sell that stuff ....PLUS the demon statue:eek: I mean could you imagine somebody selling a slayer sword? i aint never selling mine..(that when i win one....rightlollollol)

Mike paints the odd piece for Privateer Press but I\'m sure he\'d kill me if I pointed them out. They\'re always quick paintjobs and not up to much according to him (definitely not true though)

Needless to say he\'s my hero:bouncy:

what inspires me....

greetings.

this is weird but i dont really get inspired by painters...i think early on mike mcvey was a huge one...but that was years ago.
i\'m very inspired by artists now. john blanche is a huge one. i would stare at the 2nd edition 40k box cover and all the b&w art in the books for hours. just grabing all the little strange details he would include in a paniting/drawing.

and now with the horus heresy art he has done of all the primarchs...simply amazing. alot of help and insperation for my 30k great crusade project!!!!

sorry got rambling on!!

be well.

First of all

Martin Sahlin - He won gold in GD 40k monster 2003 with his Sanguinius. and he\'s a local guy.. I\'ve battled him in several painting competitions. He is one of the finest face and free-hand painters I\'ve seen. And ahh.. you should see one piece he did like 8 years ago. Incredible... he did freehand fire on a cloak that totally blew me away and still does. cause it looks like real fire..

ah.. and some others. inspired me for different reasons.. in no order other than perhaps chronological.

Mike Mcvey
Matt Parkes
Neil Thomason
Barry Lees
Dave Perry
Ruth Hollerbach
Chris Blair
Ben Jefferson
Joe Hill
Jacob Nielsen
The french team!!
Jen Haley
Tammy Haye
Michael Anderson
Kiril Kanajew (Yellow one)

The list goes on..
