Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

I loved the books. I will be sure to take a towel when I see the movie.

As for 42. I know what Adams said about the number. But outside HGTTG it has several significant meanings. It forms part of the wisdom of Shem Ha Mephorash; the Hebrew ineffable name of God.

Read all three (five) books.
Own the mini-series on VHS (conversion coming!)
Have copies of the radio broadcasts.
Definitely going to see this movie.

Mosch - That is no secret.

Yes, I thought that too. But noone around here thinks this is even possible... it\'s always a deeper meaning, significant to the plot, yadda yadda yadda... good to hear that at least you agree with me ;)

I don\'t see \"own the printed radio script\" or \"own and played the Infocom game\" or \"wrote my own ending to The Salmon of Doubt\"

Sorry is this a spelling mistake - did you mean yawnlol.

Or is it another bit I missed while I was asleep:D

Perhaps I should try and get my money back!

Seriously I doubt if they could ever have made a fist of it as a film as the only half way decent film from a serial I have seen was the Fugitive and that had a distinct plot that had little to do with any of the episodes!

HHGTTG tried to shoehorn lots of bits from the TV/radio series in with but with lots of changes and didn\'t grab me much at all - apart from the nods to the original TV series such the appearance of the original Marvin and the voice of the guide being the original TV Arthur Dent. I think I start to appreciate how some people felt about the LOTR films!

As I said, you will either love it or.......not love it, it\'s too insipid to generate hate:D

I have not avoided it, you can\'t if you are British....but to me it seems like it was written by a highly imaginative 10 year old. Plus.....it has the added problem of attracting those sort of fans who change their name and dress up etc...*shudder*

I read the books, though I really wish I had read the book instead. I\'m not fanboy enough that a poor movie will spoil anything for me, so I\'ll go and see it if the mates are going to see it.

OK, Nomis, if you fell asleep during the film then you didn\'t see the film! :D

I loved it. My face hurt from smiling.

For those who complain of changes to the story: Douglas Adams changed it every time he re-wrote it for another media. And he worked on the film script up until his death, so most of the changes were *his* idea. You can\'t blame Hollywood for everything.

@Finn - if you don\'t enjoy it what are you doing on this thread, just trying to get you post count up?

lol

Can\'t really argue against that can I:D

BUT - I have NEVER EVER fallen asleep in the cinema before! Which must say something about the film!

Fell asleep in an opera once but thats another storylol

...I am just a fearless defender of the underdog....

I feel the need to reassure people that HGTTG isn\'t universally funny, that not everyone likes The Rocky Horror Show...etc.etc....and that it is okay to admit it! You are not alone:bouncy:

I fell asleep during Reds.
Of course I was what, 8 at the time? When did that film come out? All I remember about the film was the loud music durning the closing credits. I guess they figured they needed to wake everyone up.

As to Rocky Horror, everyone I talked to said \"you don\'t go for the movie, you go for the crowd.\" In other words, no one thought it was actually a good movie.
The only time I saw it was on tape with just my Brazilian roommate.
I concluded it was actually a reasonably well done spoof of the genre. Kind of like the musical Little Shop of Horrors - though in fairness the original LSH was not a spoof, just bad.
