yeah... there are couple of volumes that are duller the the rest and feels out of place but in general the whole series is surprisingly decent (considering that it is \"deadline\" writing) and relatively consistent. The last volume which is a collection of short stories has several serious misses but even that is well compensated 
PS. out of place volumes will fall in a general story lines after sequels become available. If I were you I would skip Dark Angel volume until sequel is out (soon) and then read them together.

is it me....or am i the only one who cant get into the writing of this series. i made it through the first one and couldnt get past the style of writing....the second one is a bit better but not finished it yet.
its like james luceno when he wrote books 4 and 5 of the new jedi order. he wrote in the guise of c-3po. great idea, poor execution. wait no that wasnt a great idea....it was idiiotic....

i definitely fall into the fanboy category when it comes to this series...
i liked all of them, even descent of angels...
some are better than others...
descent of angels was definitely the weakest, but still had some really good info...
i\'m lookin\' forward to the two spacewolf & t-sons books...
i just got the word from graham that he is about to start on prospero burns in a couple weeks...
i think that these novels are great for the modelling ideas they generate, and the little bits of legend in the fluff that are brought to life...
stick with the series, and you\'ll find some gems...

well, my view of that book is pretty personal, as i thought for th action packed book that it was, the writting was really too florid and sorta clashed with the events in the story. i know that this was a galaxy shaping war and very grandoise, but the level of \"gilded, golden\" language in it really put me off
i mean, some florid stuffs great, but not through the entire read

when i read novels like gw\'s stuff, they are more like a movie in my head, so the writing style doesn\'t bother me much...
the only gw novels i found to be a drag are the c.s. goto books...
they made me wish that the books had sharper edges, so i could slit my wrists...
his omnibus is good, as it has a solid weight i can use to knock myself unconsciouslol...

i enjoyed the first 3 the most as you could form more of an attatchment to the characters. legion had a stellar twist. best ending ever!
didn\'t get into decent of angels or the one about the death guard. some of the emperors children was good, some, not so, same with battle for the abyss. although i did like having the world eater as a good guy

The books are great except for decent of angels...for me i could have read the collection and been none the worse for not reading that book...maybe the secind dark angels book will redeem the 1st...Fulgrim has been the best in the series so far.

If you read it ouy of context of the others I reckon its the best, just dont expect it to be a heresy novel..
Decent of Angels on it\'s own does feel like a fantasy novel with a few guns thrown in but then again it\'s kind of meant to be. If the sequel is anything like it should be they\'ll carry most of the themes introduced in the first book over into the others. You\'ll get the transition from mediaeval knightly order into Space Marine Legion which wouldn\'t work nearly as well if you didn\'t have all the preamble from Descent.
As for Fulgrim I\'ve had loads of people slamming it but to be honest it reads in almost exactly the same way as all the others. Primarch gradually goes sour, takes half the Legion with him whilst the other half refuses to believe anything could go wrong but harbour doubts and grumble behind his back. Then Primarch comes out of the closet and the loyalists get shafted. That\'s what\'s happened in pretty much all of them so far apart from Descent (because they haven\'t got there yet) and possibly Mechanicus and Abyss as I haven\'t got round to reading them yet

Don\'t get too crazy discussing book details. I am still on False Gods and do not want anything ruined. There are so many questions I want to ask about what happens in the later books but I do not want ot ruin it for myself.
Actually I am curious to know how Magnus falls to chaos. If I had to guess I would say his exposure to warp powers since he uses them but do not tell me
