Audio books, on the other hand, are great! (because you can read while you paint miniatures!!).

I\'ve heard really good things about the Horus Heresy stuff, anyone aware if there are audio books of them?

yes, there are 2 exclusively audio books, one about the night lords, and googling will probably bring up a few downloadable mp3s.

as far as i can see, it shouldnt really be called the horus heresy, more the Lorgar heresy, as it was basically him who started him. wasnt the loragr the religious nutter of the primarchs who burned worlds for not worshipping the emperor as a god, got his hands slapped by the emperor for doing so, and decided that the chaos powers took more notice of him n then poisend horus to his way of thinking? angron turning i can fully understand, as he was on the verge of turning a violence controlled slave world into a free one, and the emperor kidnapped him. didnt the rest turn cos they thought there\'d be nothing else to do once the crusade was over but eat and play board games?

if memory serves i think it was erebus turned lorgar his boss, then the rests history erebus aranges for horus to get poked with a magic sword and he ends up on a dream quest that turns himm to chaos:twisted:

Perturabo, the iron warriors primarch turned because he felt the emperor always gave his legion the hardest battles but he did not get any recegnition for it.. He didnt feel loved by his daddy.. The other primaches that turned where all easy to disuad for Horus because the all hated some of the other primarches or the emperor.

EDIT: Nevermind. I think the wikipedia was refering to the different homeworlds of the primarchs.

no thats not true heres a list of what happened to the primarchs THE TRAITORS fulgrim-daemon prince, perturabo daemon prince, konrad curze dead, angron daemon prince(bannised for 100 yrs to warp), mortarion daemon prince, magnus the red daemon prince, horus dead, lorgar daemon prince, THE LOYALIST PRIMARCHS jaghati khan missing, lion el johnson asleep within the rock, leman russ missing,rogal dorn dead, sanguinus dead, ferrus manus dead, robut guilliman suspended animation, vulcan missing corax missing, alpharus and omegon not know one of the twins may be dead they are loyalist but allied themselves with the traitor legions to save the galaxy

to be honost, i liked all the books, with descent of angels giving an interesting view of the \"creation\" of a legion.

And setting the stage for the further history about the DA that we all know....

The novel i liked least was probably also the one i liked most.....Legion.
I liked the story, with all it\'s intrigue, scheming and superb detailing of all the main characters and the Imperial Army elements.
But i hated the way in which Dan Abnett added the suspense, using quantity instead of quality.

That said, i have noticed Dan Abnett using the quantity over quality idea again in \"Ravenor: returned\", with the same disappointing effect if you ask me.
dont get me wrong, Dan Abnett is one of my all time favourite authors (in fact, the only author who\'s books i have read more than once, namely: Eisenhorn and Gaunts ghosts) however, his other books do rely on quality instead of quantity to make for a thrilling read.

The Horus Heresy is a great series of books, I have read each one twice so far and will probably read the series again some time soon. Cant wait to read the next one in July.

I think it sucks that all the good guys are missing or dead and all of the bad guys pretty much ascend to daemonhood.

not strictly true. the gw background has a special way of saying things with out saying them. it usually comes in forms like these
\"some speculate that.....\"
\"its is the belief of some scholars of the imperium that.....\"
\"in the legends of planet/religion xyz it is said that....\"
\"it is said that...\"
and so on
what follows these phrases tends to be the truth, for instance, Alpharius swapped armour with his most loyal capatin (probably omegon in fact now i think about it) and he was killed in his place
rogal dorn now heads up the custodian guards
manreus is steadily regenarating back to life
and other possibilties that i havent got a clue about
if they wanted to gw could bring back evry single primarch bar horus and sanguinius, they are most definetly in peices.
its important to remeber with gw, if you havent got his body in front of you, dna verified, check by a sorcerer for it not being a magical copy, and identified by their closest friend as not being a clone, and their entire army broekn and cast before you, you can yplace a pretty safe bet they aint deadlol

It might not have been Omegon. In the book \"Legion\" they described the captain of the terminator elite as being almost the same stature as Alpharius/Omegon and also the fact that every legionaire made every effort to look the same as each other. I dont think either of the twins are dead (pair of them are far to crafty to risk their necks) and they are still at large.

You could easily bring back the dead primarchs too. The chaos gods could re-create horus. Horus vs Abadon would make a great novel.

I did not even know that Horus was killed. That is how little I know about 40k. I am a fantasy guru but I know even less about it. Only that I liked the book Necromancer.

I have read enough of Galaxy in Flames to learn that Magnus pretty much had to join Chaos or die... tragic...

I don\'t remember reading that his spirit was destroyed? Can you provide a source? If you read some of the older stuff put out by games workshop, you do find that his corpse was cloned by fabius bile, Abaddon took off with the clones and the body and destroyed the clones. Abaddon wears horus power claw and the black legion was almost destroyed by the other chaose legions.

Fabius is an interesting character because he has supposedly unlocked a lot of the cloning and genetic secrets of space marines. If he started creating primarchs....

Another interesting tidbit that I have read in an old white dwarf is the blood angels lost all of their terminators in the first initial contact with the tyranids. If you can find some of the old white dwarves you will find some real neat history to 40k that is not mentioned so much today.
