How Conceptual can you get for a GD?

Ok, I\'ve this idea for my first GD entry, and it\'s a touch...conceptual.

I know the standard for the duel catagory is two miniatures in a physical battle, however my idea was more conceptual using a reflection (of course), and the battle more on a mental level. Basically a figure fighting his own demons. I don\'t want to say too much to give it away...But would this fly at a GD? Maybe not in the duel catagory but something else? I\'ve never even been to a GD so I\'d like input about what can and can\'t be done in different catagories.

Thanks for the imput,

-Eric

You should be fine. If anything you might want to freehand some lettering on the base saying \"battling the daemons\" or some such title to give the judges an idea.

The thing is, they always say they love innovation and fresh ideas. What you said does sound like one, which is a good thing. But then again, the judges are also looking for the \"Warhammer spirit\", and to me sometimes the boundaries of those two intersect. What I\'m saying is that sometimes what might seem to be a fresh, crisp idea might not fit into the \"Warhammer spirit\' frames. So you gotta be very careful about that ...

I think my idea can be very much in theme with the warhammer 40k world, but I will be sure to keep that very much in mind, I think I may have been getting a little too far away from that.

thank you margo.

I definately agree Fredrick, a title on the piece itself is probably key.

Well, you obviously already have an idea, but it would be cool as a psyker fighting off the influence of chaos, or something like that.

shhhhh! :)

That is very Hero -esque. Like in that movie where half the battle he has is mental with images of themselves fighting in a dream like state. WAyyyy cool.
You could have ghost projcetions from the psychers dueling. Neat, I love that idea.
Just put a tiltle for morons I guess.lol

Heheh, looks like we\'ve decided that you\'re doing a psyker for your duel entry, Eric, no matter what you may have orginally planned. :D

And I really would appreciate a list of what categories you are planning on entering....:D

lol well I can\'t give away all the secrets, but you guys are definately warm. I think depending on how it comes out, it should be either duel, single 40k, or a guess an open category. I\'d like it to be duel, the assumption of a duel I think would add to it. I think it may be a long work in progress, but maybe be ready for UK GD, unlikely will be even close to done for LA

yeah, I need to get some GD useage out of reflections while it\'s still new! Since there are so many technically better painters out there who I\'m possitive who could pull it off better. But it opens so many new possibilities, at least in my mind, who knows how they\'ll look once I try.

i still demand that you do a vampire fighting someone in front of a mirror! :)
but your idea sounds awesome but i could imagine that they just say one model, no duel!
i guess they dont want that the year after some people just enter a freehand of two minis fighting each other ;)
even if it would not win the gd it would be a great pleasure to see it here on cmon, good luck! :)

Sounds great, and even better (from my point of view) has given me a really cool idea for an entry... don\'t worry its not a painted on reflection and its not a psker :)

As far as category, at the Aus GD they have moved entries into the right category if they felt it was in the wrong one. I just check with the people entering the minis on the day to make sure my entries are in the right category.

Joshua, that\'s kind of what I was worried about, whether you strictly needed 2 minis to qualify as a duel.

Trevor, so what\'s the idea? hmmmmm? :D

Just a thought, would you make the reflection the same as the mini or would it be slightly scued. IE: have some type of chaos look to the reflection, bloated face, horns...

That sounds like an amazing idea.
And if it help I remeber a duel entry with just one mini winning bronze not long ago. It was a goblin (40k) shooting at a painting of an ennemy. I really likes it actually, was very different from the rest.
And your entry seems to be in line with the 40k atmosphere, dark and all. But I\'m not the 40k expert here. Cedric does that much better :p

Sounds like a great idea. I wouldn\'t expect the cretins that judge the GD\'s to appreciate it though......

More interested in advertising....

You know- I\'ve tried t\' break that tradition of trying to keep my minis secret- being first in, post pics before, talking to people. Well hell it is bad luck:rolleyes:lol
My models didn\'t even get a peek.

Arrfff, Arthur, you\'re forcing me to use my spare post ;). That gretchin entry was in fact a Staff entry ;). But one could assume that the stick figure drawing was a worthy adversary versus the gretchin ;).

But I do think that Eric has a great idea, and praetorian0_1\'s idea about ghosts could add the extra characters needed ;).

Maybe a daemon coming out of his forehead would cool (a bit cheesy, but hey ;)). If it\'s a Tzeentch Daemon, you could do all sorts of crazy lighting effects ;).

By the way Eric, Jeremy did a Golum looking into a pond with the moon\'s reflection in the water a couple years ago (won gold in the LotR category with only 3 colors and 3 hours of paint work  !!!).

I doubt this will be all that helpful, as it\'s still rather vague, but here\'s a quote from the GDLA 2005 Golden Demons page:

As always the judges will be looking for models that are well painted and well presented. In addition, special attention will be paid to how well the model fits into the published concepts of our game backgrounds. This isn\'t to say that creativity will not be rewarded, but it must be conveyed in the atmosphere and spirit of the worlds our games represent.
