How do Dreadnoughts walk?

I\'m no engineer but I\'m trying to work out how these dreads walk so I can reposition the legs.
wheredo they articulate and how far because so far they would seem to waddle from side to side with very little leg flex like.....*thinks and prepares a mental image* Hank Hill\'s father in King of the Hill which makes them a little less scary as war machines.
Or can they raise there leg to 45 degrees or more ?

Cheers ???:D

How does The Enterprise reach warp speed??? :D

These and other questions should be left to the mysteries of the addled sci-fi mind!;)

They walk softly. . .and carry a big gun.:bouncy:

if you watch some anime or maybe even old movies with stop motion clay animation with robots(robot jox, robocop, etc. . .) you might get some ideas

My suggestion for the feet at least would be Robocop - the ED-209 feet in the scene in the stairwell. But Grizzex prolly has it right in saying watch some anime and see how they are moving.

smartass answers will never help anyone

A dreadnought cannot walk, at first. It must first learn to sit up. Then it will learn to crawl. Then it will pull itself up when it gets near a coffee table or the couch. When it is brave enough it will take a few steps away from the coffee table and attempt to walk. The mama dreadnought will likely squeal and scream, and force the daddy dreadnought to watch, even though he saw it before with his first baby dread. Then he will return to his play station 2 game and realize that his game is over because he wasn\'t paying attention. Later that night he will wrestle with the notion that he should invest more time in the lives of his baby dreadnoughts. So he will commit himself to spending that time. And for a few weeks he will do fairly well. Then it will be back to the PS2 and mama will fuss at him. Before you know it, that dreadnought will be in college and when someone asks, \"How do dreadnoughts walk?\" he won\'t be able to remember. Life slips by so quickly.

If you take a look at the model, it\'s a lot like human walking. The two drum shape objects connecting the legs to the pelvis are like our ball and socket joints that connect our legs and hips. and if you look behind the greaves on the mini, you\'ll notice two more of the drum like things, and these act as it\'s knees. Of course this doesn\'t help at all when converting the model, so I usually just detatch the minis legs from it\'s hips, reposition and glue back to place.

I\'d like to make a snide comment but you buggers have taken all the good ones, so I leave you with some parting words of wisdom from Jhon Kennedy.\" I am a jelly doughnut\".

well, dreads can\'t actually walk form an engineering point of view, same as marines. why did you think that the bloodquest cgi was abandoned(apart form no funds?) it looks rubbish.... the designs work as toy soldiers, but in reality the joins in the armour wouldn\'t actually allow movement....

so, to answer your question, do what looks cool, because it doesn\'t make any sense anyways :)

That was cool, I like movies like that.

As for it walking well, there was this thing back in the Rogue Trader years that was mentioned a few times. Basically it was anti grav pads that although do not offer true \"floating\" it would support large weapons, terminator armour, and dreadnaughts. Stuck to the underside of items it would support it and aid in balance.

After watching that movie a few times I think that the legs twist too much, it should twist on the \"hip\" ball joint more.

Wow, that looked awesome! Made me want one of my own...:(

Somebody should make a skin for the MechWarrior games of a dreadnought. Unless they already have?

The Iron Fathers are pleased.

That was friggin\' awesome. I\'ve just been watching it over and over.

***Cut to scene of Ebonbuddha giggling at the computer screen. His wife\'s voice can be heard yelling, \"Are you doing anything useful? Turn down the computer!!!\"***lol

I\'ll bet...

As the Warhammer 40k Computer Game Dawn of War gets closer to completion, there might be some good references there.

I looked through the site

http://www.relic.com/product/dawnofwar/index.php

but could only find screenshots, no actual animations.....

wellll

i personaly think that it works with a ball joint... like our shoulder... think about it, they can kinda lift the knee, but not realy...they lumber a bit, but if you got one in motion, instead of the normal...\"im just gonna stand here and shoot the @rap out of everyone\" pose... itd be great. please post it if you decide to make one!

No one Gimps better

From what I can tell looking at the model, I believe the feet pivot side to side and it moves in something of a waddle. Not sure if that\'s what the sculptor was going for but it seems to make the most sense to me
