I have to say I agree 100% with you there, Lurch. Regardless of various religious and ethical views, the State (as in the government, not the US) grants certain priveleges and benefits to recognized unions.

I did a paper on this very subject in one of my human rights classes. I won\'t go into full details, but let\'s just say that it is actually against what is stated in the UN Declaration on Human Rights to disallow same-sex marriages. I believe it\'s Article 14 (don\'t have a copy handy, and I\'m too lazy to grab it) where it states that \"every person has the right to marry and establish a family.\" By not allowing same-sex unions, the government is, in effect, defining what constitues a \"family\". This is dangerous, for a whole mess of reasons.

And now I will shut up on this topic, as I can see how it could all too easily lead to flame wars and so forth. That\'s my opinion, and I\'m not forcing anybody to accept it, but on the same token, nobody should force me to accept their opinion.

Maybe in middle America and other such wacky places. In generally secular (for the most part) Western Europe, most of us know that God (as portrayed in the old and new testaments) doesn\'t actually exist, so you can say what you want about him.

Better to have others think you are a fool than to open your mouth and confirm our suspicions.

c\'mon dude. I was engaging in a little theological banter, putting across my point of view on religion an all that, perfectly civil, then mel jumps in and calls me a moron. Not even the slightest trace of an opposing point of view, or an explanation of how I am, in his opinion, wrong. I\'m suprised he didn\'t go for the coup de gras and tell me that I smell of poo!

IDIC (Star Trek) -- Infinite Diversity, Infinite Combinations. That\'s life, baby.

And on a related note, I get to vote today on whether or not same sex marriages are legal in the state of Kansas.
Alot of religious people are going to vote against it, but I think thats silly.
There is a difference between LEGALLY married and HOLY MATROMONY.
I personally see nothing wrong with giving the LEGAL benefits of marriage to people of the same sex, but my wife sees it differently. \'Course all of her arguments against it are based on religion too. Figures.
What do you guys think about this subject.
(Edging closer to \"senior\" status myself)

I voted for it as well, but it didn\'t pass in Georgia. The funny thing is some of our best friends (who we\'re visiting in Orlando - not Airhead! - are orthodox Jews and they believe the same thing - that there can be civil marriages and religious marriages - and that they both deserve certain rights.)

Edit: I just wanted to say that I really like all you guys (and gals) - even Sturm (who I said scared me sometimes!). I know you probably just think I\'m ass-kissing, but I love everyone\'s different opinions and wit and the fact that everyone shares those opinions and their wit with all of us on this site. I may not agree, but I usually do laugh!! It has gotten strange around here some lately, but maybe that\'s just spring almost-fever - the tenseness and weirdness that comes right before the \"ice breaks\" (you Northern Exposure fans know what I\'m talking about!) Anyway, I hope ya\'ll stay around for a while so I can learn some great one-liners from you because my wit sucks!! :D

To the best of my knowledge no threads have been deleted for absolutely ages. I recently moved a thread out of the public area, but that would not have caused anyone to lose on their post count.

Basically the originator of a thread can delete their post at any time and that will remove all subsequent threads. Nothing to do with heavy-handed moderation.

If Mosch removed his initial post from the PYP thread and supervike did the same with the WA thread, most of us would be back to newbies lol

Think of it as a game of snakes and ladders:bouncy:

@ Finn- Chutes and Ladders. not Snakes and Ladders, if you need confirmation look at one of the Korn CDs my friends.

@Ghey Boy- My point was that it is important to respect others and their beliefs. I have a whole bunch of thoughts and ideas that would no doubt offend many here, but they are kept to myself. When it comes to religion, you are just opening a can of worms, so its best to keep the lid on, no matter what you believe. Respect, that\'s what I am saying, you don\'t have to agree, and since no one here can definitatively prove their particular religion is \"the one\" lets just let everyone believe what they want. Respect other peoples beliefs if you want them to respect your beliefs.

Nope, I see no calls for respect in that post. All I see is you calling Ghey Boy a fool. Got to learn to back your words up Braveheart, or you end up looking a little silly lol

The Rev\'s icon is looking pretty much like a terrorist these days. Nice satire with all those who believe that religious types are terrorists. lol

Hmmm, perhaps I saw the same thing that Braveheart did: Ghey Boy calling Ghey Boy a fool. ;) lol

Damn, talk about taking a thread to places it was never meant to go! I thank certain people for not fanning the flames in another thread, and this starts to become that thread! It also became several other threads. At least be consistant, people. If other terrorists hi-jacked stuff this way you\'d have a 747 trying to head in 5 directions at once!

I\'m with everbody not talking about religion, \'cause no two people will ever agree.

As far as Ghey marriages go, who cares? As long as they don\'t wanna marry me! I had my drunken brother-in-law tell me once that he had a crush on me since he was 14! All I could think of was \"Damn! Why couldn\'t my wife have a younger SISTER?!\" Talk about your gross-outs!

Live and let live

In the immortal words of Jack Nicholsan in Mars Attacks...

Can\'t we all just.. get along?

BTW - That would be a good one for the Cheezy movie thread:D
