How do you like your....HORROR?

Ok, we\'ve done Sci Fi, fantasy, even Eggs....but lets do this one!


The horror genre fills many spectrums.

I\'m fond of the old Universal classics, Wolf man, Dracula, Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Second Cousin to Dr Frankenstein (twice removed) meets The Mummy\'s half-brother....


I also like some modern movies. The Alien series is fantastic.

Mostly, \'monster\' movies I guess. With a gribbly creature.

I don\'t care too much for over the top gore, but it seems to have it\'s place in Zombie flicks.

What I hate however is the \'psycho\' horror movies. I can do without Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, etc. etc.

I absolutely HATE torture porn. Hostel, Captivity, Saw, you can keep that shit, thank you very much.

ive only seen the trailers for it but \"The Unborn\" looks edge of your seat scary but thats the trailers the film might be a let down.
Im a huge fan of Vampire, Werewolf sci fi horror.
I think the all time best werewolf film has to be american werewolf in london

i havent seen much horror, but i think itsonly really scray when it awakens primal instincts, phsycological stuff.
(dont laugh) but i think the recent Doctor Who Series did this quite well

I like Ricahrd Matheson for the written stuff, and I\'ve found a few decent comics in the horror genre.

I love John Carpenters \"The Thing\" Alien was da bomb. Liked the film Dagon as well.

I\'m with Supervike on layin\' the hat on the Saw movies and their ilk.

I do enjoy me a freddy or Jason movie for the comic value. Jason X I laughed my ass off at.

I don\'t like violence in films very much, it tends to make me feel ill lol But I\'d like to see Silence of The Lambs, and I love the Alien films (I got the quadrilogy for Christmas), and Pan\'s Labyrinth. I always have to close my eyes at the face-bashing bit when I watch that.

I generally avoid horror. There is absolutely NO place in my life for the stuff that romanticizes the most base sides of human potential. Torture Porn. I like that description. Although, it may do a disservice to the word \'porn\'.

I don\'t really see Sci-Fi alien/creature flicks as horror. Hmm. Perhaps I\'ve just seen the wrong ones. I\'ll have to think about that.

I must be lacking a deep enjoyment and appreciation of fear... and I\'m perfectly ok with that.

you see this, is the main link betwen me and horror, and hy i spend hours just reading the blurbs of horor dvds in shops wen im very bored. i see things like that and i immediatly want to know the story. mmm livers? explain to me. i am intirigued

I must admit i\'m not a big fan of horror, I get myself really wound up about the next scare, then when it does happen I completely freak lol

I won\'t even watch stuff like The Ring or The Grudge now, went to see the ring and was completely freaked out.

I can\'t even play horror games either. Finished Condemned for the xbox after justifying the fact that I payed for it so I\'v gotta at least try! Condemned 2? That went back to the shop after about an hour of playing it!

But I do like some horror The Shining and Alien are my 2 favorite.

Torture porn stuff i\'m not bothered by, it doesn\'t scare or shock. I just watch them for the sake of watching them. It\'s a good way to spend a rainy day I suppose.

If I\'m going to watch a horror movie, I really prefer for it to be rated \'R\'. There used to be plenty of horror rated up there, and not all of it was gore-fests.

Personally, I just can\'t enjoy these incredibly abundant PG \'horror\' films on the big screen, because it\'s all drowned out by little teenie-bopper girls screeching at the top of their lungs every time the music changes.

As to \'The Unborn\', I just saw it last night, and the theatre was almost empty (thank goodness), and it was one of the better films I\'ve seen in a while. A few plot holes, but some pretty good performances. Especially by the creepy little kid. Not quite \'edge of your seat\' stuff, but still very good.

The Exorcist is a classic, and remains one of my favourites.
The original Nightmare on Elm Street (end the series there and be happy.... I wish).
The Ring, in my mind, is one of the best horror films of the modern cinematic era... with its japanese original Ringu hanging in there, too.
I thought The Grudge was severely lacking in anything resembling \'horror\'. I fell asleep near the end.
Pan\'s Labyrinth was mentioned. Two thumbs up, there, from me. Bought the DVD as soon as it was released. Brilliant story, wonderful effects.. and I have to close my eyes for that bit, too.

My favorites have already been mentioned: Alien, The Thing, The Ring, The Shining.

That X-files episode was great! It was actually a two-part episode as I recall, and the other episode was called \"Mr. Tooms\", I think. I won\'t ruin it for you, but basically, the guy pictured likes liver, and has an interesting ability that allows him to get it. Go rent the dvd...

Honorable mentions:
Pan\'s Labyrinth (nice fusion of fantasy and horror)
Magic (couldn\'t look at a ventriloquist\'s dummy for years after that one)
Event Horizon (not as good as Alien, but also a good fusion of sci fi/horror)

I\'m surprised nobody has mentioned any of the other psychological thrillers where the main character is going bonkers - Jacob\'s Ladder and The Machinist would be good examples, though The Shining still takes the cake.

Oh good one! Love all three of those with shining taking the cake. Amazing how good those three movies are, and they made my blood start pumping way more then a cheap \"BOO!\" splatter flick!

Hmm guess I don\'t have a favorite horror movie per say but definitely a favorite \"type.\"

I like the classics such as Nosferatu, Night of the Living Dead, etc (no matter how bad the screen play may be!)

Basically though just like any horror movie that deals with ghosts, zombies, spirits and what not. I hate the \"killer\" films or the \"it\'s not really a ghost but either my past or my guilty conscience haunting me.\"

Exorcist is is definitely on top of my list, along with Rose Red. Shudder wasn\'t too bad. Tim Burton\'s Sleepy Hallow is pretty good, although I guess that\'s not really much of a horror movie.

But yea, basically anything dealing with \"real\" legends, haunting etc. Non of that killer or psychological bs.

Well as I\'ve said before Slasher Flicks do nothing for me.

The old fashioned \"B Horror\" classics Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman and the 50\'s Classic SF \"Horrors\" Them, Spider etc... I never found scary (with the exception of the original \"Invasion of the Body Snatchers\").

As for Creature features not bothered by them either. (although Lake Placid is rather comical.)

I do like horror films but only if they have something more to them than just gore or monsters. I actually quite enjoy the Saw series, but for the ongoing plot and not the violence. I don\'t like OTT gore (Brain Dead etc) and prefer them to have a twist or at least something to think about, like The Others or Jacobs Ladder.

On the subject of horror, has anybody seen My Bloody Valentine 3D? It\'s true that it wouldn\'t be worth watching without the 3D feature, but having said that the plot did interest me, despite the cliches. The 3D was pretty good.

I love survival horror games, particularly Silent Hill and Resident Evil. I\'m currently enjoying Siren on PS2.
