How much money have you dropped in the Miniature Money Pit?

Total value spent, including supplies solely (or mainly) used for miniatures. I know, I know, you don\'t know the exact amount but just give your best \"guesstimation\". Fess up.

\'Nother serious collector over here. Once I remembered that your values were in USD, I guessed I\'ve at least broken the $1000 mark. Don\'t tell my Mum!

Been gaming for over 30 years. If I had all the lead I\'ve ever bought on one table, I\'d hope it has reinforced legs.

Then there is terrain, books, dice, battlemats, tact-tiles, markers, cabinets, posters, bookshelves, etc.

then to paint them: paints, brushes, lights, desks, static grass, flock gun, eltecrostatic flock gun, airbrushes, compressors, etc.

Discover CMON and add cameras, light tents, more lights, a computer, a new monitor (to help my minis look better....didn\'t work), etc.

Maybe $10k wasn\'t enough ???

well I clicked \"Big Spender\", but since you put that way Kev, maybe that wasn\'t enough either

Been at it since I was 11 or 12.
Spent lunch money, allowance, lawn/snow/landscaping pay, birthday Christmas money.
Then I turned 16, spent paychecks.
Turned 17, slowed a bit, spent half paychecks.
Joined the Marines, spent every other check, moved to college town, spent half of one paycheck per month.
Got side job AT A GAME STORE, got paid in minis, (well, might as well have).
Found CMON, discovered more than 40k.
So yeah, over the course of almost 20years, I\'ve cleared $35,000 easily.
Maybe even over $50,000, but I don\'t know.
It adds up pretty quick, though!

I started at the age 11, now I\'m 31 so I dread to think.

What sickens me a bit is, as I have improved with my painting I use to throw out my old collection. There are probably some Rogue Trader marines and Imperial guard still battleing there way out of the local tip.

I\'ve spent a LOT of money over the years on minis (not so much these days though). Cool thing is that I\'ve spent the last 10 years making minis my livelihood and have earned more money out of minis than I have spent :)

I\'m sure they will be a boon for some archaeologist some day.

(I think I\'m probably only \"Casual Collector\", not buying whole armies probably helps. I would think \"Gamer\" is probably likely to spend more than $500)

Well I put 1-4999 but that\'s because I bought most of my kids stuff - which I\'ve now \'inherited\'. :D

Then again if we consider ALL minis, well I started back in 1963ish and spent a load over the years; models, figures, paints etc etc... maybe I shouild have gone up a notch on the vote thing

Probably \"obsessive\", considering it\'s all I ever spend money on, except for food, occasionally, since I was seven, with increasing amounts of cash to spend since then :D

Well, I chose a value that\'s close to what my collection is worth even though a lot of it wasn\'t purchased as much as acquired.

But I am going to talk to my insurance agent about making sure this stuff is covered sufficiently. One minor fire and I\'ve got a very expensive lump of metal.

well definitely in the is my life bracket...

all receipts etc tallied up for last year end showed a spend of £4870 .... inc paints and equipment .(£350 in damn paints).... earnings from minis considerably higher thankfully but still 27 years of collecting and the last couple of years my lower spend due to not gaming and the thoughts of the figure in actuallty are pretty damn scary ... (more than I\'ve paid to my mortgage that\'s for sure )

That said my scuba gear total\'s over £20.000 and my fishing gear touches £8k throw in £1800 on golf clubs plus the years fees .. (not much last year thanks to the lovely weather we had) and you could pretty much ay I\'m a total hobby whore.....

keeps me out of the missus\' way .. funny thought... last week I needed some new jeans .. I spent a while searching round Asda and TK maxx finally settling on a pair of jeans for £8 and a t-shirt for a fiver and trainers for £25.. I then bought food for the week .. £80 and new clothes for the little one.. £40 ...... A couple of days later I then ordered £240 worth of stuff from Forgeworld in prep for GD.....

Is a very good point.. I had my collection evaluated and had a talk with my insurance company.. Turns out it only cost a few quid more per month to upgrade and cover those contents seperately. Well worth it for the peace of mind and I recommend anyone who hasn\'t already gives it some thought.

So there are people who don\'t treat you like an idiot when you say you want to insure a lot of valuable minis, then? I am surprised but impressed. Who did you get to do the valuation, and did it seem reasonable? And what was it based on? Current market value? /nosy
