How to make those water bases, where the water goes right to the edge of the base

Hello,

I have the forgeworld toad dragon. I want to base him as if he's coming out of a swamp. I've seen some great dioramas where the use a small fish tank or something similar to hold in the water effects, etc and due to the glass, you can see inside the base.

Here, I have a large GW base (several bases attached to each other). on one side, I'm wondering has anyone made a water base with water right to the edge, where nothing remains after to hold it in.

Something kinda like this but using woodland scenics reallistic water.

I was thinking of using plastic card "walls" to hold it in and then remove it after the water has hardened.

Please let me know if you have ideas.

I was talking to someone who works with some of the epoxy type of water effects and he suggested using metal over plastic. Haven't tried it yet but maybe add a foil cover between the plastic card and water effect.

This was done with resin rather than water effects, but I suspect the principle is the same. The main difference would be that water effects are designed to work in relatively thin layers, whereas resin can be done much more thickly.

Tyson Koch did a very nice looking swampish looking base for his golden demon winning Hive Tyrant. He shows how he did it on the very bottom of this guide.
You can clean up the run off with a hobby knife or razor blade. Just be careful.

I've used the styrene wall approach on my Souldrinkers base - http://www.coolminiornot.com/255486

In that particular instance I used 5 min epoxy resin to build up the water level. To ensure that the sides were shiny and also that they came away from the epoxy I covered the inside faces of the styrene with cellotape. It worked rather well, IMHO.
