I remember the Assassin, but the Saruman was my fave. I truly thought it was going to (and should have) taken gold in that category. I thought the other Saruman was good, but I personally did not care for the green palantir. *shrug*

Well, I appreciate your kind words on my Saruman. You never really know what the judges think about when it comes down to it. Subjectivity comes into play. It\'s hard to be disappointed when you place, but part of me wishes that he wouldn\'t have placed and I coulda taken him to Chicago!

I think you\'re definitely onto something. Atlanta will be the GD that sets the pace, so to speak, for the rest of the season. Now people get to see what placed and won the Slayer Sword there first, and try to respond at LA, Chicago and Baltimore. The only thing that might change things slightly is a rumour I heard. The word was that GD Atlanta will be every other year- switching off with a Games Day in Texas.

I heard the same rumor. Inadvertently had lunch with a couple of GW employees. You wouldn\'t be the guy who left his stuff at the lunch counter, would you? I\'m aweful with names.

Worked out great - Pete Haines joined us while we were eating. That guy is hillarious!

Anyway, back on track. The GW employees were saying that Games Workshop wanted to make the Games Day experience available to people who couldn\'t travel to Baltimore, Chicago or LA. Specifically, they wanted to reach out to people in the Southeast, which is farthest from any of the other compititions.

The rumor was they would switch between Texas (maybe Dallas?) and Atlanta. I piped up, \"Why not do both?\"

I\'m not sure if I mentioned this to the GW guys or not, but my opinion was that switching would be a bad idea. Games Day will never catch on in either location if it is an every-other-year thing.

But it is a rumor, and there are no substantiating facts. I\'d like to hear more from others who are \"in the know\" about this.

There is one error to the \"Atlanta Proving Ground\" theory - once a piece medals, it\'s done. You can\'t enter it elsewhere. So if you aim is to win Chicago or Baltimore, you wouldn\'t want to win Atlanta.

But if you just want a win, ANY win, Atlanta would be a good place to start. If you medal, great! If not, you can get critiqued on your piece by people on-site (and they will do it for you if you ask NICELY), make appropriate changes and re-enter in another competition.

Dave: I still think Sauruman should have gotten higher than 3rd. Maybe the judges had a grudge against ostentatious bases. Noticed that the overblown-based figs didn\'t even make first cut?

I certainly hope they don\'t do that. I have buddies in the Dallas area and wouldn\'t mind going for a visit, but...ick.

I on the other hand would love a GD in Texas, though it seems a little asinine to cut out the Atlanta one so we can get our rocks off. :flip::bouncy:

I personally thought from the pics on gw\'s website that the saruman was waaaay better than the first place and second place :shrug:
